hi, we encountered same thing last saturday when me and my wife were shopping in SM Southmall las pinas. they introduced themselves as philippine prudential life... blah blah..
They said that we are qualified for the raffle to play the roulette for a new honda car and US$10,000. so in short we went with them and listen to their so called "one time presentation" for almost 4 hours being curious.
i was questioning their company integrity since they mentioned that the company was established 1960s something but they are not affiliated with prudential life (i dont really get it). so i said how come i never heard of their company before and how come its a "one time presentation" and i can not come back any time if i decided to get insured from them. well i guess its their sales strategy if anyone would fall into it. so in short, they never convinced us to buy from them.
my advice to all readers is: always think think think first before handing your credit card, bank card, atm or debit card to anyone. and never never mention your finances specially to strangers.
@ joey. yeah right they have to work too to get a living.... so as robbers and thieves, they have to steal to put food on their tables. good thing!!!

I don't think it's right to say that a product is a scam especially since you didn't even listen to the product they were trying to sell. You simply made a decision on a whim because you wanted to conform with your friends that it isn't worth it and they were just trying to sell you a scam. Just because a company is offering you freebies, doesn't make them scammers do they? Mcdonalds gives out coupons for discounts right? and those coupons count as freebies. Does that mean everytime I buy from Mcdonalds I'm being scammed? I don't think so. Besides i'm not even forced to buy from mcdonalds they just give me coupons I look at it and decide that the product is worthy of buying. I believe freebies are simply there in order to make a person listen to the sales agents. I myself admit I ignore the people handing out fliers in the mall but I get every freebie that's being passed around, like the taste tests in groceries or the discount coupons of jollibee or mcdonalds. The sales agents might also have their fair share of problems, most probably because of their professions, if they don't sell they won't make a living. The end point is I believe that we shouldn't judge especially if we haven't heard them out, we are individuals, we don't need to conform to the people around us saying it is a scam, we should make a decision for ourselves. I myself was actually approached by a sales agent in sm north edsa near Mcdonalds they gave me a bag :D and asked me to join the raffle so I did, who knows i might win right? I also went to their 45 minute presentation. After that I decided, whether to avail of their product. FYI I didn't get one because I think I don't need it yet but maybe I'll get it when I get a bit older.

its is understood that bloggers mostly got their blog post to be one-sided unless if its an opinionated blog. dont bother telling that blogs are always biased. Blogs are individuals' diary in the web, so it is expected that its content are one-sided. The good thing is they are sharing their experiences that soon be helpful to others decision-making activities. the bottom line.. next time have a wise decision making habits in dealing these marketing strategies. Im a proud blogger, i value its existence.

@Mi: After reading all the comments here I think Joey is correct. It's a simple sales pitch, and people were convinced enough to buy a product that may help them in the future. My deceased father bought a plan a few years back and when he died we actually got the money from his insurance without any problems. Also I think you're mistaken as to which company this is. It's "Philippine Prundential Life Insurance Co." not the Prudential LIfe who got its licence revoked a few months ago. I believe its under the Insurance Commision, maybe you should just call them to verofy if its a legitimate company.

@Jess: surely when you signed up for something you would have a piece of paper confirming your "insurance". There might be a contact number there.

@Joey: Some of it might have been a sales pitch, but some had experiences of getting their credit card "borrowed" for confirmation of their identity or some other crap, but in fact, getting it swiped already for the purchase of the insurance. If this isn't a scam, then I don't know what is. Plus, this company already had their license revoked since April 2009. They are not allowed to sell any plans anymore. Is it still not a scam? Maybe it should be called an illegal operation instead. I am in no way defending any of the people who have left comments here, but before leaving a stupid comment about "clearing up" the meaning of a "scam" and insisting that it is a "sales pitch," it would do you well to read the previous comments and the linked articles, and more of the comments from that linked article. Sure, these people are trying to make a living for themselves, but the people who got tricked into buying these "insurance plans" also have to make a living, and if they feel they don't need these plans (assuming it is valid), then it is up to them. A lot of companies now include insurance as a benefit. If they earn enough to have a credit card, then most likely they would have that benefit. Maybe not all, but a lot of them.
