Radar Detectors

I just found out what a radar detector is. I was reading about the best radar detector when I thought to myself, “What the HECK is a radar detector anyway?”

Matt kindly explained that it’s for traffic thing and I don’t think it exists here. At least I’ve never heard of it. Traffic enforcement here is … obsolete. Haha… I mean.. It’s low tech. It’s No-tech rather. :D

Imagine if our traffic enforcers get radars… their radars would be going crazy and they wouldn’t know which one to catch. Hahaha…

Pictures!

Whenever I look at digital cameras, I feel a little sad because I want one. But then I have other priorities before the digital camera. Laptop first.

I can afford to wait because it’s not like I don’t have access to one. I can use my brother’s girlfriend’s digital camera if I want to.

Most of the things I take pictures of are my dogs or nature or people… well, anything really. But I like taking pictures of nature the most. Just the image of trees against the sky, or the perfection of flowers amaze me.

Most of all, I like taking pictures of events. Like when I’m with friends whom I rarely see, like my Amigas, taking pictures randomly is the best. It’s like capturing that moment forever.

I don’t really look for anything in a camera… as long as it takes clear pictures. well, maybe I do. The Macro function of the camera is what I really like. I like taking pictures of stuff like the pollen of flowers. That would require a really good one.

Other than that, everything is good.

Motivation

We were designing our table tops at the faculty room today. I wasn’t able to draft a lesson plan again.. oh well..

Anyway, what drives me? What motivates me?
That was the theme…

And because I didn’t really bring any materials even after my co-ST Gail told me to. Well, I did. I brought a brochure of the Atom Xda O2 thingie.
I cut out the picture of the PDA and pasted it there… …. It kind of looked pretty bare, so I looked through my file case to see if there was anything worth passing as motivation. The only other colorful thing in there was an Anglo-Saxon map of Great Britain. I cut it randomly into random strips and then pasted it haphazardly but still in order.

I wanted to draw a map of Japan, but that would mean my wish to leave the country, which was one of the serious issues here. hehe… So I just drew a big red dot.

Wouldn’t it be nice if I could just pack up with Samsonite luggage bag and leave and go to wherever I want… Like Japan. Hehe… I hope no one figures out the big red dot.

Top 5 Addictions

My last post was about blogging addiction. I replied to Dawud Miracle’s post about having a timetable. But that really just applied to me during schooldays. So here I am, so early in the morning, blogging. Anyways, I was thinking, I don’t think I’m really that addicted to blogging, so I was surprised with my blogging addiction score. So I thought about what I’m really addicted to.

I now present my Top 5 list of addictions.

  1. Noodles
For first time readers of this blog, or for those who don’t know me, I am a noodle addict. Noodle soup type, fried noodle type, instant (just add hot water), home made, or stove-cooked (semi-instant), pasta–I eat. I stay away from the crunchy noodle type though.I love noodles so much, that I explore not just local brands or common recipes, but even the foreign noodles aisle. Chinese, Taiwanese, Expired Taiwanese, Hong Kong…ese, Indonesian, Singaporean, Japanese, American (?), Korean, Thai, and… I Think that’s it. I like to taste different kinds even if they’re spicy, sweet, salty, weird, one time it was a little rubbery.

I’ve tasted all local noodles as well. My favorite local pancit type is Payless Chilimansi XL (But I add some condiments as well, like chili flakes, Maggi Savor Calamansi, Old English Worcestershire sauce, Chili powder, Oyster sauce, Garlic Sauce, Oyster Garlic Sauce… and they go in rotation so they never taste the same!)One time, I accidentally put too much Chili Flakes… :) I was sent to hell and back, and I couldn’t feel my tongue for a couple of hours.

    Mi’s Favorite Things

This is actually supposedly one of my creative shots for my grad pictures… But I didn’t have this one printed. Maybe I should have coz this totally represents me. Except I forgot to put on the headset that I brought.

  2. Daddi
Enough said. I’m addicted to my Daddi. That’s what I call Matt.
  3. Music
I am a music addict. I’m running out of space for my music. I would readily delete my anime and dramas and movies to give way to my music files. They’re mostly Japanese, a big chunk of Chinese, a small chunk of Korean… better stop here. :D

    somemusic.JPG

Do I need to explain? Fine. At the lower portion, the number 23386 is the number of songs… 9wk 1d 10:54:14 is total playtime of all of those. The ones in the middle are drive spaces and stuff. In case you didn’t notice, I had the Anime and Game OSTs in another drive that was not designated for music. The songs I recorded are included in the list. They’re in I:\ but they’re less than 3GB.

  4. Internet
This includes my computer, mIRC, blogging, surfing, image boards, downloading, anime, drama, and so on.See first pic. To the left is a computer monitor.
  5. Cute Stuff
    Cute people need cute stuff.

    addictions2.JPG

Panda! Need I say more?

The ones that didn’t make the list but are my current addictions: Lipton Red Tea, Dark Chocolate, Strawberry milk & Melon milk, Choco Flakes, clutter.

Now… What’s your Top 5 addictions? I tag…. uhh… Sarah, Sara, and Lori if they can =_=… maybe Yu?

DO IT TOO!!!

Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros

I’m subbing that movie. The International Title is The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros.

So far I’m on the translation stage.

I tried simultaneously translating, typesetting, and timing all at the same time, but it was hard. So… I’ll do it the normal way:

  1. Translation
  2. Typesetting
  3. Rough Timing
  4. Editing
  5. Timing
  6. Quality Check
  7. Release

Instead of doing everything all at the same time, I’ll just do it one by one. The order isn’s strictly like this. Some overlap and some may even come before or after another. I’ll edit to add definitions later.

Mondays and Rainy Days

Last Monday, I saw mangoes for P30/kg. They were a little small… I bought 3 kg and then walked home. XD The usual 45 minute walk.. well.. maybe 35 minutes from where I bought it.

I was supposed to ride a trike once I got inside Sikatuna Village, but I wasn’t paying attention. When I came to, I was more than halfway home… So I didn’t bother. Just another 20 minutes anyway.

So there I was, lugging 3 kg of mangoes home. I was thinking of various thoughts in my head. I was planning something big that day. I was kind of nervous and excited…

$500 million underwater fiber network to link Asia, America

Faster Intarwebz: Read the topic here.

This would mean faster intarwebz for us in the Asia-Pacific. At least, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

That means that if Taiwan gets another big earthquake and underwater lines break, the rest of SEAsia won’t get cut off from the internet world.

From the Philippines, if the lines are to the left, there is always this greater danger for earthquakes because of the ring of fire crap, but actually plate boundaries crap. Plus, it takes longer to get to the US. But if it goes to the right, it kind of avoids the worst earthquakes, worst would be volcaning earthquakes in Hawaii, I think. and lesser too. Faster to reach California because it’ll take less hops to get there.

Currently it takes like 25 or more hops to get to the US…

maa. w/e. it’ll be up December of NEXT year. still a long time.

Things to Know About Google Talk

Ok. Everyone knows I’m on Google Talk ALL the time. You can even send me SMS or text messages through it to my cellphone. You just have to know my number and append @chikkatalk.com to it. That way, I still get to chat with some important people in my life like Matt and Yu. It is also a vital part of my life because that’s what I use to talk to Matt almost 24/7 .. maybe … like 12/7 including sleep. Currently 20 hours a day approximately, since I don’t stay in school much now that it’s just the Summer term.

So now, extra stuff about GTalk.

  • File Transfers: Probably a lot of people know about this already, but since in the GTalk help pages, it doesn’t mention it… You can drag files to your GTalk conversation window to send files, as long as the other person and you are using the GTalk client. Most other IM clients has this feature anyway. These files could be just one, multiple, or even a whole folder.
  • Call / Hang-up / Answer: GTalk actually has shortcut keys for these. I thought it was just for my keyboard so I didn’t mention it to Matt. Well, he was playing around pressing random keys and discovered it too. F11 is for calling and answering. F12 is for hanging up. This is helpful to know since we usually sleep with GTalk. And sometimes I get disconnected because of my stupidity and I call him back and he doesn’t really want to turn the monitor back on. So now we just use F11 to call/answer and F12 to hang-up. No need to turn monitor back on. I just wish GTalk had an auto-answer option to make life easier.
  • Calls: It’s clear and you can have it on forever! It doesn’t disconnect you unless your Internet connection or your computer is stupid. Best of all, it doesn’t use up much memory.
  • Simultaneous access: You can have GTalk running in more than one place at the same time. Heck, you can even have it running on your computer in more than one instance. 1 on the GMail window, and another one on the client itself, and another one on the Google Talk Gadget , which I will have to put somewhere on my blog and websitelater. You could also add GTalk to your sidebar on FireFox.
  • YouTube and Picasa/Flickr Integration: This only works for the Gadget though, but with the gadget, you can watch YouTube and view Pictures right on your GTalk window! Well, for the client, you can preview pictures right on GTalk too. Even if you send multiple pictures, you can have them show up on your conversation window then and there. Just stretch your GTalk window to a size wherein the whole picture can fit.
  • VoiceMail: Other person isn’t on or available? Leave a voice message! Feeling stupid? Leave a voice message! Want your loved one to make you a personalized ringtone? Make him leave a voice message! instant mp3 XD
  • Logs: It logs all your chats whenever and wherever you are. You don’t want it logged? You can put your conversation off the record too.
  • Twitter: Got a Twitter account? You can easily change your status on Twitter with GTalk. Just add twitter@twitter.com to your contacts and Voila! Instant updates! Oh, you could add me on twitter too. >_> Miii <—-
  • Instant EMail: If you want to send an email to the person you’re having a conversation with on GTalk, just press F9.
  • And the best feature of all: It’s not bloatware! Unlike MSN and YM and ICQ and AIM which includes a lot of useless shit, GTalk is very minimalistic. Simple, Sleek, Sufficient.
  • Want themes and stuff? Go to customizetalk.com for it. (wow the tricks and tips that i discovered are there too! >_< =_=)

>_< I hope it doesn’t become bloatware.

Google

This is in response to Sarah’s post about how much she loves Google stuff.

Well… I hereby call them Google Toys or GToys. >_>

Google toys I use all the time

GMail
It’s absolutely cool. I only delete spam. Read Sarah’s post for more about this.

GTalk
Matt and I use GTalk Voice chat round the clock. Except when one of us is out. We would be on call for more than 12 hours sometimes. We sleep with it >_> He’s snoring at the moment. Oddly enough, it’s comforting.

Search History
This is very very useful especially if you are doing a paper or research on something and you don’t do it regularly or just the day before. You will see all the searches you’ve made and what search results you’ve viewed. It shows for each page how many times you visited that page, the time and date, which searches had no results, and it’s on a by-day basis. This is helpful especially the date and time if you want to properly document a paper you are writing on (date and time accessed). What I like about it best though is you can search within your searches!

Bookmarks
You can bookmark a page with a click of a button and tag your bookmarks. Then you can search your bookmarks. x_x I like it because my local bookmarks is VERY messy so I use google bookmarks for school use.

Google toys I use every now and then

Google Maps
I’m not a stalker. But sometimes I just want to see stuff. Some parts of the world are still not updated, but it’s still cool.

Picasa
This is the image indexer of Google. You can view all the images stored in your computer all in one place. You can also search the filenames, and duplicate images. You also have the option to upload upto 1Gb of images on your picasa/google account automatically, so you have an instant web album. You can use this web album for the new Google talk gadget thingie.

Notebook
I write random notes. >_> I used to use this a lot when I was going on other computers before.
Also before bookmarks came out. and saved searches. I don’t quite use it anymore.

Docs and Speadsheets
Well… I tried using the spreadsheets to keep account of my daily spendings. >_> but i failed . Docs, i used it a couple of times to open the stuff my groupmates send when i can’t be bothered running Word.

Calendar
I use it when i think of it or see it. >_> It sends reminders to my email so it’s all good. I put the reminder for my website stuff on there.

Google toys I’ve used

Google Desktop
This is evil. It uses up too much memory. It makes my small screen even smaller. But you know what? I loved it. Every single moment I was using it. I loved it. It just didn’t work well with uTorrent. But I heard recently that it now has an option to put certain folders on ignore. So I’ll do that. I think. I might want to use it again. But maybe I should get more RAM first. x_x

Google Earth
Google maps software. But GMaps is better. >_>

Google Toys I plan to play with

SketchUp
It’s a 3D modeling program. Dunno… Just wanna try it. *pokes Sara and Sarah* gonna try it??

Google WebAccelerator
No… It sucks >_> I tried it. Within 10 minutes of installing it and hardly browsing coz i was busy chatting, I already had 3MB in my cache. So I figured … never mind. Besides all it’ll do is cache so things load up faster. ~_~

Google Reader
Sarah recommended this. Actually, she kind of ordered me to use it. AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaand It seems to work fine. Some blogs don’t have feeds, but the important ones have feeds. :D \o/ I’m gonna use this baby. >_> Now… if only I could remember to go on it often. :D

What’s Up?

Stuff I’ve been doing lately:

Eating expired noodles.
Mama bought this bunch of Chinese instant noodles at the Marketplace in Mandaluyong. It’s stamped “EXPIRY: APRIL 2007″ or something like that. But if you look at the Chinese scribblings, or if you know how to read Chinese, you’ll find out that it expired December of last year.

It tastes heavenly. I love it. Expired my behind. Instant noodles can last until a year later, as long as its ingredients are well-preserved. As for that, I still don’t care. I’m currently eating this pack of Lucky Me Chicken Sotanghon from months ago. I just realized that they changed the chicken bits from chunks to tiny slivers which is almost pointless. The carrots are tinier in the old one, but the noodles are better. I can boil it for ten minutes and it just swells nicely. It’s chewy and tastes really good. The new one, if I boil too long, it gets …. overcooked. >_> sloppy. I love the old one. >_<

Messing with my webbie
I’ve done some additions here and there but I haven’t really made a really major change. I’m still too lazy for that. I added a chat applet. Added a radio… I should update that though. I made an LQ version available but haven’t properly fixed it.

Organizing my Music
I’m a self-confessed music download whore. Yep, you heard me right. I keep downloading music and stuff even if I’m not sure I’ll ever have the chance to listen to them. I don’t like deleting them either. What do I do with them?

What I do is load them all into my music player (FOOBAR!!!) all 25000+ of them and randomize them. I eventually get to listen to something new.

Currently, I’m not listening to them because it takes a while to update the music libraries. So, I listen to those that are not being touched like my own recordings. >_>

What I like about foobar is it plays almost anything. If it doesn’t play something, you can usually find a plugin to be able to play it. If that still doesn’t work, it’s probably just really in a totally odd audio format. The biggest plus with foobar for me is its lightness. It doesn’t use a ton of memory like WinAmp. It’s not bloated with a million features you’re not really interested in. Granted, the “skin” is not as easy to customize in Foobar, but if you search for skins, you’ll see that you can actually customize your foobar to make it really pretty–without all the extra memory usage. And then it allows you to load archived music into the player, which is another plus for me, since I download most of my music in RARs. Oh oh, aside from being able to easily drag a music file from foobar to send to IM windows or IRC, you can have your playlists all loaded and easy to switch back and forth to, and move music files to and fro.

DIETING!
Well… trying again. >_> I need to slim down a bit. It’s my practicum in 2 months, and I really need to buy new clothes for that. For the past three days, I’ve only eaten rice once, and only half a cup of it. I’ve been eating fruits and vegetables. The only noodles I’ve been eating is sotanghon which is a little healthier.

I’m also doing the Eat More Eat Less thing. Eat more times in a day, while eating less food each time.

In regard to vegetables, I’ve discovered that the Patola or the Loofah/luffa is better if after peeling and slicing it, you store it in the freezer. The shape stays round, and the center part which usually kind of like dissolves when cooked, stays there. I really love Patola. It’s one of my favorite vegetables (which is actually a fruit).

Music
Karaoke, Playing the Guitar, playing around with the keyboard to produce beats.

Router
I’ve been hating on the router constantly. I wish I could stab it to death.

Backing up Data
I can’t get on FantasticSuperSeeders anymore, so I can’t seed the movies I have. So I’m deleting them one by one. I don’t have much really. I started out with a little over 50Gb of Asian movies and I’m now down to 23Gb. If anyone wants my account for a ton of Asian movies and stuff, just tell me. D=

Voice Chat
Not just with the BF, although 99% of the time it’s with him. I talk with other people too, like Mimi and Steven and Rippa and Hiros and Johnny and even Satou.

What else…..

Oh. Yeah. Summer classes. ~_~ Nat Sci 2. The teacher looks fun. For the Geology part anyway. I’ll try to make it a point to recite everyday! D= XD I need a high grade.

That’s it for now. Time to try Google Reader which Sarah is strongly advocating.

D=
