Panda called me the day before and said we’ll meet at 9am, and that she’ll call me. So I set my alarm for 6am, and kept snoozing it until 8am. A few minutes before 9, we were at Lavender MRT station already.
She sends me a message saying she just woke up and will take an hour.
So we wait a bit. We walked around Lavender station. Panda said there wasn’t really much to see, so she was suggesting Bugis. She was right. There was absolutely nothing to see in Lavender. So I took a picture of the bridge. lol.
I checked out the ad board a bit while waiting too. I saw a lot of pianos for sale. That and the review/study center/assistance ads–reviews, language, gmat prep, other kinds of prep, and room or lodging ads.
The sight of seeing a number of pianos being sold was so depressing. I want a piano for myself too, and I want to learn how to play the piano. It was depressing because I could probably afford a piano if I save enough for it.
I found it amazing how there were a lot of review and similar ads to that. Most of the Singaporean people I’ve met online are usually really intelligent (at least I think so) and busy. After school they’ll need to go study. And probably because most of the Singaporeans I know are otaku, they understand Japanese. I saw an ad for English language learning, and on the same sheet, Mandarin language learning.
—forgive me if I may not be writing in correct grammar… where I’ve been is affecting me and I’m beginning to talk the same way and my typing is also getting infected—
Anyway, back to what I was thinking…I think people here take studying seriously. At least the people I’m exposed to and from what I’ve seen. Sure some people will say “No.” but I think in general, it is like that. In a place as competitive as Singapore, I’m sure a lot of parents would want their children to get a good education, and a lot of adults would want to further their education to get a better position. If I ever have a child, I’ll make sure to instill a thirst of knowledge for that kid.
Panda arrived around 10:30am and she was pretty. Have I ever mentioned that I only met Panda through IRC? I’ve never met her in real life. So it was good.
We looked for Beach Rd to eat Bak Kut Teh. I couldn’t stomach eating yet the one with the pork innerds so I just had the ribs. It was good. Although Panda said she eats Bak Kut Teh somewhere which is better but she doesn’t know how to get there.
After Bak Kut Teh we walked back to the station and went to Orchard. We were able to get free ice cream–Magnum Gold. The logo is the same as Selecta Ice Cream in the Philippines. The chocolate coating was gold, and tasted like it had a lot of butter. There’s also a caramel swirl in the ice cream itself.
We also walked inside a mall and did window shopping… but everything was too expensive.
We went to Chinatown afterward so I could buy souvenirs
