WWFF - Will Work For Food

Now that I’m hardly doing anything, I feel it more how broke I am. I’ve been writing about being broke and being jobless for the past couple of posts and I do hope that I could stop talking about it, but it’s the only thing I could think of in my life right now.

Everyone knows I’m addicted to noodles, and I can’t really buy a lot of noodles for myself now. One time I tagged along when my Pop went to get some groceries. I said I’ll carry the bags in exchange for some noodles. When we were at the groceries, he told me to just get what I want (within reason). I took 2 10-packs of noodles. I would’ve gotten a box if it were available. He asked me why I was like buying wholesale. I said that I was out of noodles and I hadn’t eaten noodles in a couple of days already. He just stared, of course.

I told him that I’ll scan the old yucky pictures he wanted me to scan for him to post on facebook if he’ll get me the noodles.

That worked. So now I do have noodles.

Hairfall Control

I’ve cut my hair short a couple of months ago. One day after I quit my job, I woke up around 3am and I felt like wanting to have my hair short. So I went and did it. I wasn’t too pleased with it though. But anyway, my hair is short now.

I thought I wouldn’t need to worry about my hair falling because it’s shorter already. When it was really long, I just run my fingers through my hair and some get caught in. So I thought it was the end of checking out hair loss cures… but I was wrong. My hair was still falling occasionally.

So I’ll continue using the Rejoice hairfall control shampoo.

Acne Acne Acne

Ever heard of accutane? It’s a prescription drug for acne. I mentioned a few posts ago about my father’s high school classmate taking something or putting something on his face to get rid of the acne prescribed by a dermatologist. Well… I’m trying to find out what it is, so I was reading on some drugs related to acne.

Putting that aside, I was reading about accutane and other acne drugs and I was surprised to find out that there are plenty of side effects related to these drugs. I’ll be reading more about it because I’m curious. Apparently it does work in proper dosages and with the recommendation of a doctor.

For the record, my face isn’t full of acne. This really just gets me curious

Low-tech but cool

low-tech-but-cool

There’s this grocery store near my place that I like going to because it has all kinds of promotional sales (i.e. products that are about to expire go on 50% discount, like mayonnaise or jam or pickles) and there are also a lot of products there that are relatively cheap. I’m talking about Hi-Top along Aurora Ave, Quezon City. Their floor space is probably about the same or even a bit bigger than the SM Savemore branches I’ve been to.

Doublemint mints - Peppermint

My favorite mints are these Wrigley’s Doublemint Sugarfree mints. I like all three flavors — Peppermint, Spearmint, and Winterfrost. My favorite would probably be Peppermint. It only costs P68 in Hi-Top. I think it’s like P78 in SM Groceries (I’m not sure. I just know it’s more expensive there) and P100 in 7-11 stores.

Doublemint mints - Winterfrost

Aside from the low prices in Hi-Top, I’m amazed at the cashiers. From the picture above, you can see that the price sticker covers the barcode. Yes-you won’t get an itemized receipt from them. Only the prices and what their general category is. Most big groceries now use barcode scanners like the Symbol LS2208. Heck, even the smaller groceries near Hi-Top, the two Anson’s Supermarkets, use barcode scanners.

This doesn’t mean that the cashiers are very slow with punching in the numbers for each item. Probably because they’re veterans at this, they’re actually pretty fast. Even though I’m fond of watching them punch the prices all the time, I still wish that they’d upgrade a bit (without jacking up their prices) for the sake of the cashiers and customers (who like to keep track of what they bought). I’m pretty sure they can do this upgrade. I’m not sure if the other branches already use the barcode system.

I really like having a record of what I bought. Obviously, some people value this too. When we went to El Nido, Palawan, where electricity is rationed, the big groceries store there have the “cashiers” writing down each item on a sheet of paper, probably as official receipts. It was pretty amazing, although it’s probably for the other people who have their own smaller stores in the town. … But still!!! watching the two young ladies writing like crazy each item and the price…

NEETness

Do you know what NEET means? It means Not in Education, Employment, or Training.

That’s what I am right now. But I’m not a social recluse nor do I move from one part-time job to another. I’m just not doing anything productive right now. Because of this I’m being lazier and lazier.

I don’t wash my face when I get up. I don’t fix my bed. I sleep early and get up late (early morning, late afternoon). I just sit in front of my computer and play games or talk to people online.

At least I’m not worried about pimples. Some people who don’t wash their face often sometimes are easy preys to whatever causes pimples. Even if I did, I’m sure there’s something like pronexin that will help get rid of it if it gets worse.

But! I actually have a job interview on Saturday. BEAT THAT! lol.

Ordinary Bus Rollercoaster

I just LOVE ordinary buses. Here in the Philippines, “ordinary buses” are non-airconditioned buses. Yes, there are still buses like that here in the metro. They’re cheaper and faster. Cheaper, because since it’s not airconditioned, they charge less. Faster, because they usually skip some places and they sometimes don’t stick around waiting for passengers.

During off-peak hours, they’re even better. They FLY in highways. Airconditioned buses would wait about 10-15 minutes each stop (I might be exaggerating but that’s how it feels like) while ordinary buses would just wait a few seconds, or better yet, not stop at all if there’s no one flagging them down.

From Baclaran to Kamias, it only takes about 25-30 minutes during off-peak. When I was still working in Ayala, I was always forced to take airconditioned buses and it will take me 50 minutes to an hour just to get home, and even longer to get to work because I go to work during peak hours.

The only thing probably that I don’t like about ordinary buses is afterwards, I feel so grimy and all the pollution of the cities I passed through is on my face and hair. My hair really feels sticky and heavy and I might want to buy some acnepril soon. THAT kind of feeling. Like I’ll start to have acne on my face. I just wash my face when I get home.

My friend said the ordinary buses in the Philippines are better than the rollercoasters we rode in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Extended Vacation

The primary reason for me quitting my job was the vacation that I’ve been talking about all this time. My online friend that I’ve known for years was going to come here for a very unorganized vacation for a maximum of 3 months because that’s how long his return ticket is open for. That was also why he picked a laptop warranty with accidental damage for the first three months because he’s expecting himself to be traveling with it.

Since we are masters of procrastination, he didn’t bother reserving his return ticket until a few days before his supposed last day here in the Philippines. He got himself on a waitlist for EVA Air for Manila to LA and then he booked a cheap ticket for LA to Detroit from an airline that was partially on strike.

Miraculously he got a seat from the waitlist. Ironically, the flight from LA to Detroit got canceled.

So he’s still here.

I’m looking for a job right now though. LoL.

Puerto Princesa, Palawan

Palawan!

I’ve always wanted to go to Palawan. That odd shaped long island that I believed to be the arm of a dinosaur before… And finally I was able to go to Palawan.

We landed in the Puerto Princesa Airport and the pension house we booked, Balai Inato, had a shuttle waiting for us to bring us to the place. When we arrived there though, the room wasn’t ready. Apparently, the people staying in the room that was assigned to us checked out late and so we had to wait outside until our room got ready for about an hour. In the meantime, we took some pictures and went online.

We had dinner at Ka Lui’s, where you had to go barefoot. The tables and chairs were low, like how natives do sometimes, although there were cushions. There were also some modern furniture for those who aren’t able to sit on the floor or for the westerners who preferred to sit on chair. Scott and I had the Tuna Steak, Catfish, Prawn, Veggies that game with dessert. Loraine had the Blue Marlin meal. Both were good. Scott especially liked the Tuna steak, since he didn’t really like the taste of Tuna, but the Tuna steak was really good. It had a different kind of flavor aside from the tuna flavor.

The next day was our trip to Honda Bay for our Island Hopping. We went to many islands, I snorkeled for the first time and fed fish. It was an awesome experience. Loraine said it was addicting, and now I know what she meant by that. If I was addicted to FishVille before, this was real-life FishVille, and you’re inside the huge aquarium that is the bay. I played with the jellyfish too!

We had dinner at Kinabuch’s and although it was as common as a grille restaurant like Gerry’s or Dencio’s, the Kare-Kare was soooo gooood. They seem to have used real ground peanuts for the sauce. Most places would just use peanut butter. The ox tail was so-so though. The sauce was the winner.

We had to go sleep early because the next day we needed to be up early to take the van to El Nido, Palawan.

Paradise!

Fried Rice Addiction

Ever since we came back from Malaysia I’ve been cooking fried rice almost everyday.
I’m not getting sick of it yet, and what’s surprising is my dog who hates eating can eat at least 3 servings at a time.

I will post my recipes on my other blog that is about time to be revived, which is Pagkain.net

Forget about weight loss success stories for now. At the moment I’m more interested in making various kinds of fried rice which is just recycled ingredients.

Since I wake up past noon, the rice from breakfast is already somewhat cold and most of the time I don’t like what was served for breakfast anyway.

I’M TRYING TO BREAK FREE FROM MY INSTANT NOODLE ADDICTION! The bad thing is it’s also carbs. orz. o well.

Cramped

We’ve been having issues at home. Not to say that this has just started now, but there has been a ton of issues for the past 15 years and new issues just pop up now and then.

Right now, my brother’s girlfriend is staying with me in my room. Including Scott, the three of us are kind of cramped in my tiny room. Not that I mind. But I did realize that my room is really REALLY cramped. It’s no surprise either. In my 3.5m x 5m room, I have an office desk instead of a computer desk for my computer, I have a tall cabinet, a drawer cabinet, a 7cu ft refrigerator, and a double deck bed wherein the bottom is a queen sized bed.

I really want to bring out at least the drawer cabinet but there’s already too much stuff in the garage like outdoor furniture that there’s no space.

I guess we’ll have to be cramped like this for a while until my brother and his girlfriend reconciles and Scott goes back to the US.
