Travel Damage

travel-damage

And so I went and conquered Corregidor yesterday. Man, I’m so tired. We were even planning to go to Ocean Park after it but we were so exhausted we just wanted to go home when we got back to Manila.

Now on to the damages.

Financial Damage:
The travel package was P1999 from Sun Cruises.
Lights and Sound show is an addition P150. This is optional and it lasts for 30 minutes. But what are you going to do in a remote place for 30 minutes? You also won’t get to go inside the historical Malinta tunnel with out it, so it’s going to end up a requirement. I paid for my brother so it’s P300 total.
I wanted to buy souvenirs but I ran out of cash. Good thing the place where we ate accepted credit cards. The keychains I got were P175 each. I got 2, so that’s P350 in total.
When we got back to Manila, I wanted to thank my brother for coming with me even if he had work that same night, so I treated him to dinner. We ate at Sizzling Pepper Steak amounting to P620.
We met at Ministop in the morning and I bought Silvanas, Powerade, and candies = P98.
Random transportation fares that I paid for:
Jeepney from house to train station = P7 x 2 = P14
Cab from Pureza LRT2 station to the bay = P100
Cab from the bay to Recto LRT2 station = P100

Weight Damage
Lunch was a buffet with Menudo, Roasted Chicken, Leche Flan, Buttered Vegetables. Minestrone, Pandan juice, and my favorite of the day, SEAFOOD PAELLA!
The damage here is to my tummy. :( And to my weight.

Tiredness
Well… I’m sooo tired and sleepy.

I read some phentermine reviews and this one uses caffeine to raise the heart rate for fat burning purposes. But a lot of people drink coffee and other caffeinated drinks anyway right? Maybe I should just drink espresso everyday.

So much being a tourist. My camera’s battery died out on me in the last hour of the trip :( I need to buy a spare battery.

Vacation

I’m dreaming of a loooong … vacationnn (to the tune of White Christmas).

Next week, I’m on vacation leave for 3 days and my 2 rest days follow that. So I’ll have 5 days in total. The first day (20th) I’ll be going to Corregidor with Jennie. The rest of the days… I don’t really know yet. I need to seriously work on my updated CV and maybe clean up a little. I also need to update TheTopBunk … as I’m writing this, I’m backlogged for a couple of days already. I’ll also hopefully be going to the gym on those days except the 20th and the 24th.

The trip to Corregidor (I booked on this website) will be a guided tour. I know that’s not the best way to do trips, but it’s my first time to explore a little so I might as well be guided and have someone else take care of everything for me.

The Hong Kong trip that I’ve been dreaming about for over a year already will not be a guided tour. I’m determined about that but I really have no idea about going on trips. I mean, someone really needs to teach me how to go about planning these trips step by step because I’m a real dummy. I might end up booking Outer Banks vacation rentals for what should be Inner Banks if a place like that exists. I might end up getting a more expensive hotel or something when I could have got something a lot cheaper. I intend to spend but not waste my hard-earned munniez.

My Tagaytay trip last month was totally ruined because of a storm so hopefully this pushes through.

Mi’s Christmas Mailing List

mis-christmas-mailing-list

This started 3 years ago, the same year I created my channel called #roflmao on Rizon. I also sent out cards the year before, but it was only to other people who were going to send me cards too.

Back when #roflmao was still alive and flourishing, there was always activity, talking, games like Uno and Scramble… And so come Christmas season, since I was the queen in that room, to show my gratitude to my “people”, I created the Christmas Mailing List or the CML. It was just for fun, and I wasn’t asking for the others to send me cards as well. I just wanted to do it in the spirit of the season. I’m also happy doing that.

I can’t remember anymore how many cards I sent that time. I know that I paid around P500+ for all of them.

This year, I sent 32 cards in 4 postal regions: South America, Pacific, Asia, and Europe and USA. The paper I used for the envelopes were colorful and handmade. The woman at the post office even commented on it. I was kind of embarrassed because they must have looked childish when I brought them to the window to have them stamped. I made up some excuse that I met all those people from a conference and that we promised each other to send Christmas cards. It’s too difficult to explain to old people who probably don’t even know how to operate a computer that these people are all from the Internet and I haven’t even met any of them in real life.

All of the cards, not just the envelopes, were handmade as well. I just used some fancy panda printed and glittery paper. Some of them I stuck little things like stickers or foam sheets, some I painted on them.

Next year, I intend to use christmas photo cards or something. Or just post cards so that it’s cheaper. That way I could send to MORE people with not too much effort. I must admit that there was a point where I thought I bit off more than I could chew because I ended up sending cards to more than 30 people (I forgot some people. They’ll just have to be on the next batch).

But the excitement! The feeling! I don’t have any regrets sending out the cards. Maybe one day I’ll be remembered for this! hahahaha

Philippine Prudential Life Scam

philippine-prudential-life-scam

On my way home today, the bus I was on made an offense and contested it with the MMDA so they were taking forever to be on their way. While waiting for like 20 minutes while they try to talk it out, my phone rang and saw an unfamiliar number. I rejected it the first and second time, since I was in EDSA and it was pointless to answer the phone. The third time, I picked it up. I could hardly understand what the other person was saying so I just said to call me back after 30 minutes.

I got the callback after an hour. It was a Fin Morales from Philippine Prudential Life telling me that I got picked to be qualified in a raffle to win a Honda Civic(?). In order to completely qualify, I needed to go to SM Megamall and participate in a contest. Just by going there, I’ve already got a (1) guaranteed premium item. I’ll also be immediately eligible for a (2) raffle coupon for US$10,000. Aside from that, if I win the game, I could (3) win a Honda City(?) right then and there. I said that I’m far and it will take me about 3 hours to get to SM Megamall, but they said that they’ll give me a time to commit, and if I can be there within that time frame, I also instantly get an (4) additional gift. All I needed was to be there and bring an ID and a bank identification, either a credit card or a checking account. I said I had a credit card.

I asked if I can just do it tomorrow since I work at 2am and I had just arrived from work (that was almost 2pm already). They said it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I could win, but the slots for eligibility were limited. I said I didn’t want it. I had work and no way am I going to jeopardize my health for something that isn’t a sure thing. She said I could have someone represent me instead like my mom. I just have to have her bring my ID and credit card.

Well, I thought, I could just go and check it out and go straight to work afterwards. I never really said okay. I asked for the details, like where to go. I mean, sure, why not, if I’m going to win, I could go eat Cuban food and sit by the beach in any hotel miami could offer with $10,000. Here are my notes of that call (because she said I needed to write it down)

Philippine Prudential Life Kotse something (I can’t remember)
5th Floor, SM Megamall Bldg A.
Left - Derm Clinic
In front of Copytrade
There’s a car
Signage: PPL - Phil Prudential Life

Go to the Head Office, inform them that I spoke with Fin Morales, personal cell: 09204207158
Look for Erojean Batara (?), and I will be assisted immediately.
There’s a touch screen game that I can take my time with, but before that there’s a kind of orientation that is standard of 45 minutes to tell me about the company sponsoring the contest which is PPL

#1 Guaranteed Premium Item
#2 Raffle coupon for US$10,000
#3 Chance to win Honda car (Heck, I’m not into cars so I have no idea, civic, city, etc)
#4 Additional gift item for being on time.
I’m #2 on the list.
It’s free to join the promo, no money involved, no obligation to buy anything.

The numbers that called me: 09178222132, 09178732151

I told Yu that I was going to go and check it out, but he was afraid it was a scam so he told me to bring someone with me. I called Iks and he said it was a scam. They’ll make you buy insurance. I didn’t want that. He said that maybe I could check it out anyways because I’m not getting any younger and I should really think of getting insurance. But he can’t accompany me.

Well… Okay. I figured I’d search it first on Google and I found Arpee’s article on the Philippine Prudential Life scam.

*Sigh*

It was too good to be true. Good thing I thought of checking it out first.

I think people are easily scammed because of the need for money or freebies. It’s such a sad world.

I’m Going To A Crater! (Taal Volcano)

im-going-to-a-crater-taal-volcano

I found out something just recently. Tagaytay is in Cavite and with minimal traffic, you can get there from Makati in about an hour and a half.

All my life, I had always been thinking that Tagaytay is somewhere near Baguio and that it’s a minimum of 4 hours to get there. I’ve only been there twice. The first time was on a field trip, and the second time a family a trip, both during grade school. I’m not one who likes long rides, so an hour trip feels like forever to me.

Anyways, me and some friends are planning to go to Tagaytay next weekend to unwind and do some sight-seeing. We’re planning to go to the Taal Volcano crater.
Taal via Google Maps

See the one where it says “A”? I want to go there!

My problem, though, is to get there, we’ll need to do a lot of walking, then I think there’s horseback riding (I’ve done this… once?), a boat ride (never been on a boat, big or small), and then some hiking (done this a couple of times). I’m big and lack exercise. I get tired easily, and my sprain from before starts hurting after a couple of minutes of walking. Here I am, trying to figure out a fast way on how to lose belly fat because I’m so lazy, and I’m wanting to do hiking!

Well… I’ll endure it. Coz I really wanna visit the crater!

Rain and Puddles

rain-and-puddles

Ondoy or Ketsana was last week. This weekend, we had expected a supertyphoon that even CNN put a close watch on, but it didn’t hit us as hard as expected in the capital. It’s not like we were overreacting at the Category 5 typhoon that wasn’t really going to hit Manila directly, but I think the people were traumatized. We took Ketsana lightly, so Pepeng or Parma, being reportedly stronger, was something we wanted to prepare for.

People did some panic buying supplies like candles, flashlights, and medicine. All the loafed bread were gone in two groceries near my place. In one of the groceries, there was also a shortage of instant noodles.

Typhoon Ondoy Hits Manila… Hard.

typhoon-ondoy-hits-manila-hard

Yesterday morning when I woke up, it was raining. Actually, the night before, it was already raining hard. Pop told me to start putting up my things just in case it floods. I raised my noodle stash, and some other stuff. I put Taba and Teacup on the top bunk as well. Usually when it floods here inside the house, maximum would only be 6 inches deep, so I wasn’t bothered. When the water started coming in, it was just coming in slowly. And then it was rising more and more… and it was rising fast. I told myself that I didn’t want to step in that murky water, but I had to.

Taba and Teacup

The half-foot deep of murky water became a foot. And then more. And then it was knee-deep. Mama was able to save my clothes. I wasn’t able to save my shoes. They were already floating about. I tried to save some of the lower drawers, boxes, whatever I can save. I dumped them all on my bed. Some stuff were falling off the side, and when I knelt on my bed, it sank. My bed was floating already. I quickly got off. I’d rather it float than have it soaked.

Toilet

The power went out as well. We were just using candles, and my UPS was still able to power up my router and modem. My netbook still had some life to it. Tried to go online for a bit to read up on what was happening to my side of the world. And if my colleagues were able to go to work. With chest-deep water and higher, some opted not to risk their lives just to go to work. It was just not be worth it. Even if I try to get a life insurance quote to wade through the waters to go to work, I’ll probably not go too, if I had work last night. Good thing it was still my rest day.

But now I’ve got to get some rest. I’ve got to sleep. I’ve got work tonight. It’s not raining much anymore. I’ll go to work. There’s no such thing as severe weather condition as a reason for not coming to work.

I know I’m lucky that the water has receded at my place. In some areas the water is still high, and people are stranded inside their very homes. For now, I’m good. For the others, I’m hoping for everyone’s safety.

Eraserheads Live! The Final Set … was purely awesome.

eraserheads-live-the-final-set-was-purely-awesome

Ahhh….

It was a really great show. Nice symbolic closure, by destroying the piano. You guys will always rock. I wonder when will a boxed set come out. My brother and I grew up buying and listening to cassette tapes. LOL. Iks has them all… somewhere.

It was worth the P3000 that I paid for! I hope the DVD version of that concert comes out soon. The acoustic session they had was eargasmic. I want to listen to those over and over again.

Well.. I’m tired, I’m sleepy…. and Happy.

Pacquiao VS de la Hoya

pacquiao-vs-de-la-hoya

It was Pacquiao’s match today and he won. I was shopping at SM Marikina and it was announced in the mall that he won. I was like … “What? Why the heck does it need to be announced in the mall? What’s so special?”

I guess I really need to check on the news more. Or be more aware of current events. Personally, I don’t like Pacquiao and I had wanted him to lose. Whenever his name is mentioned, I think of a balloon on a stick. Of course, I could be wrong, but his image in my mind got completely ruined ever since he tried running for office, or was it when he tried acting?

So apparently, he’s the new Muhammad Ali of the Philippines. My parents would tell me about how the whole country would stop because Muhammad Ali has a fight. It was like an unspoken holiday and some offices would go on halfday just for this match. Ali Mall, one of the malls I frequent the most, was named after him.

Would there be a Pacquiao Day? Pacquiao Mall? There was already a movie, I think. And with local jokes, Erap jokes are out. Pacquiao jokes are in. I wonder how they will call it? If there was Eraption, there would be … Pacquing Jokes? Wat Da Pacq?

If his head isn’t bloated yet like I imagine, I sincerely hope it doesn’t. I wonder what he’s doing with his money, aside from donating it and giving it to his family? Getting a franchise for a small business for extra income?

I want to win the lotto…

Globe Follow-up

globe-follow-up

So yeah, I was contacting Globe for almost a week. They promised me October 7 as a due date. I received my load, finally, on October 8, at almost 3pm. That’s about 5 days and 16 hours of delay.

I sent an email to custhelp@globetel.com.ph and stated all my complaints and demands. About 2 hours later, that’s when I received my load. I also got calls and text messages from a Globe person.

Eventually, I received a P250 compensation. I did demand P50/day that I didn’t receive it, and for their crappy system that dropped off the calls and/or their agents that disconnected the calls.

I’m okay with it now. Even if I didn’t like Globe’s Customer Service, I like it’s promos and the fact that it’s kind of tied up with BPI. And now that I can use mobile banking again, my life is back to normal. Or almost. I received a message that “Globe is undergoing system maintenance. BPI Mobile transactions are currently disabled. Pls try again later.” And that was last October 4… and I’m still receiving it now. But since that’s Globe … >___>

Globe reminds me of those unassuming moth traps, attracting these pesky insects with its bright light, giving a promise of this and that, but in the end just burning them and taking away their life.

That thing with Globe really exhausted me. I hope that this is the end of it.
