Donate Car, Help Child

There’s this non-profit organization which lets you donate cars and other valuable vehicles like boats, and whatever you can donate to make videos for kids and teens and other young people that may need help like single moms and kids that need to be in rehab, and even homeless and/or hungry kids. Then they sell these things you can give and they use the money they raise t make the videos. They can pick up any car in any state (in the United States only though) and you won’t have to worry about selling it or having it towed or transferring the title and so on. Everything will be swift and professional.

Donate a car now, help a child.

Here’s one of their videos.

Talks of Town 01: Churva and PayPal PH

There are some things lately that it seems like the whole pinoy blogworld is talking about. But I’m only going to talk about two of those — this Chorva coming from the Greek word Cheorvamus and PayPal allowing us Filipinos to withdraw to local banks.

Cheorvamus

We Filipinos are justifying that the term Churva and its variants came from the Greek terminology “Cheorvamus” which means “for lack of the right word to say”, or “in place of anything you want to express but cannot verbalize,” and that is exactly how Filipinos use this term.

However, has anyone even tried proving this by looking this specific term in a Greek Dictionary? I’ve received at least 10 text messages about this in the past months or so and I’ve ignored it. The first few messages I got had another line at the end of the message saying that it’s just “Churva” (Churva lang yun), meaning it’s just bull so I’m sure some gay person just cooked this up. And I still do. However, the last few messages I got didn’t even have that last line anymore and I’m seeing more blog posts coming up with this term as if it were truth.

And I don’t like where it’s going anymore. There should be a campaign or movement to make people stop spreading this bull and not make lies the truth. Sure, that’s how the word is being used, but really, this is bull. Let’s start educating people. I’m not saying that we (minus me) should stop using the word churva but we really SHOULD stop treating this as if its “etymology” is valid, as if it’s some noble truth. (Sorry, Sarah :< It’s not just you, but the whole world.)

People should also stop believing whatever’s being sent through SMS, what with all these Unlimited Text features (which I don’t use anymore), people wouldn’t think twice before sending out these kinds of messages.

By the way, I’m open to anyone who could show me proof, like a Greek->English Dictionary entry or an unphotochopped screenshot or a scan.

Withdrawing money to Philippine Banks from PayPal

Here’s some tough shiznits. People have also been talking about how we can now add our own local banks to PayPal and how we can use it to withdraw money. However, some people leave out the fact that we still won’t be able to withdraw the said money if the account isn’t verified. And how do you verify? By still having the need to add a Credit Card, which, unfortunately, isn’t easy to get for most Filipinos.

In my case, I can’t get one because I lack one valid ID. (I’ve only had one valid ID ever, and it expired when I finished Uni. I just got my company ID yesterday… I still need one more to get a CC =_=; Darn them all.)

*sigh*

And And and… WHY DON’T THEY ACCEPT THE NBI CARD AS A VALID ID??? I mean, it’s Government-issued, and it’s got my picture on it. What’s the big deal why they won’t accept it as a valid ID? GRRRRRR!!!!!

And I just want a CC so I could have a verified PayPal account and when I get regularized, I could buy a really good cellphone for installment.

And so, sometimes, I wish people would talk more about other stuff like how this colon cleanse thing works because I have no idea what to write for it.

Go Green!

You know how some companies are trying to be more earth-friendly by doing simple things like garbage segregation, recycling, and using reusable grocery bags? Or, have you ever wished you could try helping to save the environment as well? No? You’ve never had thoughts like that?

Well, here’s a website that’s full of green products and other earth-friendly ideas for you to choose from. GreenandMore.com has over a hundred eco friendly products that could at least give you an idea what kind of things to use and what not. This doesn’t just give people ideas, or makes earth-friendly products available for you, they also support some environmental charities like Oceana and Healthy Child Healthy World. And you know how some companies or even people don’t really practice what they preach? This company does. They live their mission and follow the green practices they promote. They don’t use plasticware, they use recycled office supplies and kitchen goods, they use 100% recycled office cardboard boxes and so on.

So what does this site offer? A lot. They have different shopping departments to help you fulfill your needs. They have energy saving appliances, solar power products, home improvement stuff, water conservation things, eco furniture, lighting, other indoor and outdoor decors, accessories like handbags… They cover almost everything!

This company does not only sell products as well. They also have a green learning center with a lot of information like sources like the EPA. This kind of reminds me of my old college organization which promotes saving energy XD. Anyway, unlike my org, they have a going green blog which they call GreenMusings where both employees and the public can share their going green stories and photos.

Now… if only being “green” meant the same thing in Tagalog. XD

Little Princess

Eelai and iks went to baguio a couple of days ago and took home a lot of stuff so they don’t have to do it all at the same time. And eelai was telling us that she found 2 land titles and she plans to sell them instead of their house up there. Which is a good idea, so they don’t have to give up a vacation home.

And with some other land for sale, they could keep that house and go there every summer or something. The problem is, these two lands Eelai never knew about so she also has no idea where they are.

Aside from land, she also found a lot of stock certificates so now she’s looking for a broker to sell them for her.

Aaahhh I never realized she’s a little princess. >_< Makes me feel insecure.

If anyone is interested in lands in Baguio, just contact me.

Online Banking

I use BPI… It’s not really an online savings account, but I can do some banking online. It’s not even really fully online. In order for some services to work, you either have to go to the nearest bank near you or call them up. It’s a little inconvenient, but hey, they don’t have excessive bank charges for everything you do with it. In fact, there aren’t really any charges for online banking… It charges through other means, very expensive means. — not really.

Is it safe, you ask?

With this system wherein you have to go to a bank before you could ACTIVATE your online account, or enroll a bank account before you could electronically transfer funds from one account to another… Yes, I think it’s safe. Your only worry would be if you get hacked, someone might send prepaid credit to your phone XD

I think, however, that current accounts are automatically enrolled online as well. I can’t remember…

At least I’m not afraid of BPI suddenly closing and becoming a totally online bank–at least not in 50 years with our current system and economy.

Florida~

A couple of days or weeks ago, Matt and I were talking about the possibility of living together in a warm place. The choices? Florida, California, and Hawaii.

For Florida, We could probably check out West Palm Beach. I looked up West Palm Beach real estate and it promises to really save big bucks if you buy from them. Even buyers get a commission! Isn’t that amazing?

They also have other listings in Palm Beach, so if you’re planning to live there, you might want to check it out.

epazz

If ever I am going to have my own company, or at least group or community website, I want something like this epazz intranet software. It’s just amazing! Although many of its applications can be used here and there on the web, it is integrated to just one portal. It’s just like a content-management system, but can be used by everyone. It’s perfect for business.

Why?
It is collaborative, linking everyone in that community together. The higher ups, the staff or employees, the managers–everyone who needs to be involved.

How?
One of the main features I wowed at was group calendar wherein you could schedule meetings, interviews, and even parties with those who need to be there. Just schedule the meeting or something, send the invitation or notice to those involved, and presto, it’ll be on their calendars already. If someone from the company would like to schedule a meeting with you, they can just send you an invitation and it’s up to you to accept it or not. You can easily see if there are conflicts as well, so you could, also easily, move the schedule to another time.

In line with the group calendar where you can easily schedule stuff, there’s the daily and weekly organizer.

You can read your emails in it as well without having to open another separate website or program.

Newsletters are delivered to the same place as well, and you could comment on it easily.

It has more features, but over-all, it is designed to improve workflow and time management within the company or business as a whole.

I want to try it as well, but no one to try it with.

If you have a company, you could try it for 30 days, just contact them to help you set it up.

Admission Essays

Need help writing your essay for school applications? Or law school personal statements? MBA or other graduate study program applications?

Admission Essays offers professional essay development services or analysis and revision of your own essays for academic applications or personal statements to give you a better chance at getting in your target school or program.

It’s not like they’re going to make some flowery essay for you to get in. No. They base it on personal facts and experiences of the applicant, the client, the one who’s trying to get in. They could either make it from scratch, or if you want your personal touch there, they could just revise or polish it for you, or if you really want it to be truly your own, they could critique it for you to make it better.

Now if only there was a Lesson Plan writing service, I might jump at it. But then, lesson plan formats and patterns differ with each school and so on. *sigh*

Home Improvement

It’s been raining a lot recently and the more leaks around the house that seem to appear like mushrooms, the more I want to hurry up, finish schooling, find a job and move out. I just don’t like this house. It needs a lot of home improvements, not just with the roof, but including the walls, the cabinets, the cupboards, even the backyard.

If I were in the UK, I would probably look into getting a Victorian style or Edwardian conservatory, like this one in Anglian Home Improvement. It just sucks a little that conservatories aren’t so *in* here. I want to grow a flower garden, but I hate being outdoors. I want to eat under the sunlight, but with all the dust floating around in the city, it would be dirty. A conservatory would be perfect.

That, however, would entail major deconstruction and reconstruction of the house. And with the number of quality builders here, I would have to just get the best, but at the same time, price worthy. Like last time we had our room fixed, although the one leak in my room that becomes like a faucet during heavy rain disappeared, a newer one, right above where my computer would usually be, appeared. Various places at the house got more leaks as well, like at the dining room and the kitchen.

All this talk about my brother Iks and his girlfriend moving out and getting a home of their own is making me darned jealous and impatient.

Golf is boring

To all the golfers out there, if you buy Callaway golf products, depending on how much you spent, you can get either an iPod or iTunes gift card!

I will always think that Golf is a VERY VERY boring game. And I think someone
started thinking so as well, because of that free iPod thing. So to ease that boredom away, listen to some music. :D Cool isn’t it?
