Mi’s Christmas Mailing List

mis-christmas-mailing-list

This started 3 years ago, the same year I created my channel called #roflmao on Rizon. I also sent out cards the year before, but it was only to other people who were going to send me cards too.

Back when #roflmao was still alive and flourishing, there was always activity, talking, games like Uno and Scramble… And so come Christmas season, since I was the queen in that room, to show my gratitude to my “people”, I created the Christmas Mailing List or the CML. It was just for fun, and I wasn’t asking for the others to send me cards as well. I just wanted to do it in the spirit of the season. I’m also happy doing that.

I can’t remember anymore how many cards I sent that time. I know that I paid around P500+ for all of them.

This year, I sent 32 cards in 4 postal regions: South America, Pacific, Asia, and Europe and USA. The paper I used for the envelopes were colorful and handmade. The woman at the post office even commented on it. I was kind of embarrassed because they must have looked childish when I brought them to the window to have them stamped. I made up some excuse that I met all those people from a conference and that we promised each other to send Christmas cards. It’s too difficult to explain to old people who probably don’t even know how to operate a computer that these people are all from the Internet and I haven’t even met any of them in real life.

All of the cards, not just the envelopes, were handmade as well. I just used some fancy panda printed and glittery paper. Some of them I stuck little things like stickers or foam sheets, some I painted on them.

Next year, I intend to use christmas photo cards or something. Or just post cards so that it’s cheaper. That way I could send to MORE people with not too much effort. I must admit that there was a point where I thought I bit off more than I could chew because I ended up sending cards to more than 30 people (I forgot some people. They’ll just have to be on the next batch).

But the excitement! The feeling! I don’t have any regrets sending out the cards. Maybe one day I’ll be remembered for this! hahahaha

Blast from the Past… and Running After It.

blast-from-the-past-and-running-after-it

Today, at work, I saw someone from high school. She was never my classmate, but our classes, being just two in our curriculum or cluster, we are kind of close, or if not close, we would know each other by name at the very least.

I was just surprised to see her. I’ve changed my name at work, using my phone name as the name people call me, because that’s also my name online, and she insisted on calling me by the nickname I used in high school.

It’s just funny, because she used to blog a lot like me, and slowly her blog posts started to become less frequent, to almost never. I can’t even remember now when was her last blog post. It’s not that I really read her blog, but I do have her feeds on my Google Reader.

And looking at myself lately, when I first started working, I was still somehow able to manage to blog 3-4 times a week. And then it was down to 2-3, down to once a week, and now sometimes, a week passes without any blog posts from me.

And seeing her at work, she said that she’s been with the company since 2006… and with how it had affected her blogging… I’m a little afraid that I see the trend happening with me. I’m scared.

Blogging may not be my life, but blogging does make me happy most of the time. But now, I can only blog about random thoughts. I seldom write well thought-of blog posts these days because of the time constraints and the stress and fatigue from work. And it’s not just my blog posts that started dwindling. My online presence on IRC has greatly to almost disappeared. Sure, I try to drop by every week or every other week, but my MInions have been complaining about my disappearance.

I’m losing my online life. Sure, there’s Plurk and FaceBook and little random what-nots, but it’s still different from my eternal presence in my kingdom.

It’s also funny that now that I’m blogging less, I’ve become more interested in Blogger events that just never fit my schedule right.

It doesn’t help that my Computer is still in a coma.

Enough Rants and back to work la!

Project Wonderful is not so wonderful.

project-wonderful-is-not-so-wonderful

And so, because I subscribed to gL3nnX’s site and saw one post and so I decided to sign in and try. For the ad blocks or some shiatz, the site had to be reviewed. And so I submitted my beloved Miii and tried my luck.

Thanks for submitting your site to become a publisher with Project Wonderful! Our website review process forms an assessment of a website using a variety of criteria. These criteria include, but are not limited to, suitable content, ease of site navigation, and the website’s potential value to Project Wonderful and the experience of its members.Unfortunately your website, at http://miii.net, does not currently fulfill these requirements. The specific issue identified was:

- Content issues
We look for posts with original content and audience participation. When examining your site, we found that it appears to have one or more of the following issues: an overabundance of sponsored “review” posts, posts with content taken from third parties such as other web sites or Wikipedia, posts with little original material, and so on. While we respect your ability to build your site as you wish, we also reserve our right to exercise discretion when considering sites for Project Wonderful.

Let’s break that down.

  • an overabundance of sponsored “review” posts,

I guess the 50 or so posts I did for PPP and other sponsored review posts is such a big impact that the other 1,100+ posts are invalidated.

  • posts with content taken from third parties such as other web sites or Wikipedia,

I would assume this is the lyrics and the occasional Wiki snippets… maybe that makes up another 100 posts, just an estimate.

  • posts with little original material,

I couldn’t help but LOL at this. So the remaining 1000 or so posts are all bull? and taken from here and there? I guess rants and complaints about everyday life aren’t original. I guess my notes from school aren’t original. The lyrics I romanized or translated myself that got copied by other websites aren’t really original content. Heck, even my original poetry is not original content. I guess I don’t really have very little original material. Like this post I’m writing now. Yep. This is unoriginal.

  • and so on.

Maybe my blog qualifies in the “so on” part. I guess blogs full of “so on” just get denied.

Maa ii yo. Don’t mind what I said. I’m just a blogger scorned. I mean, I’m just a blogger with unoriginal content. Who cares, right?

PLURK MI!

plurk-mi

Join me and follow my plurks by clicking here.

It’s kind of like Twitter … but kind of fancier. It’s on a timeline. and it has pictures. It hasn’t integrated or partnered itself with any IMs as of yet, or at least not that I know of. That would kind of defeat the purpose though, I think… I mean… the timeline thingie which is the special feature of plurk, which kind of sets it apart. I know I have 2 other twitter-like thingies that I joined but they’re so … forgettable. Literally. I can’t even remember them.

OH WAIT!!! I remember one. One is Tumblr. Maybe there were three.

ANYWAYS~~ Join me and my plurkline~~~

SEO and what it means to Mi

seo-and-what-it-means-to-mi

I feel like I’m being picked on by certain people because of a certain post. Maybe my choice of words might be incorrect though. They’re just voicing their opinions. It’s just that it feels like their opinions are being forced on me.

Forgive my simplemindedness. But for me, SEO–Search Engine Optimization–optimizing keywords to gain traffic has the main purpose of making money. Why use SEO in the first place? Just to be popular?

I don’t make money out of SEO though. I’m not so into it either. In fact, if you look at my posts that are tagged with SEO, you’ll find only three posts. Three firetrucking posts. And yes, they’re all for THAT keyword. If you check out my posts tagged with Making Money Online, there isn’t much to see either. And they’re mostly about doing paid posts.

I’m not into studying and reading and researching. Heck, I don’t even read books now. SEO and online money-making takes a lot of research and studying–that much I know. And I’m not really interested.

So the big question… Am I making money online? Yes. It’s minimal. It’s extra income. But it’s not big. I don’t plan to make a career out of it. It’s just that for me now–extra income.

I’m not quite big into SEO or making money online. I have a full-time job that I like and I haven’t had a lot of time to blog. I don’t know why these Anti-”pinay scandal” posts seem to be linking back to me, but I’m not the only one in it, and I’m not even the one who thought of it.

My blog–my opinion. I believe you also think that way. Your blog–your opinion. Right? And no one can change that–unless you do paid blogging too and you have to write positively about something–which I avoid doing that’s why I’m only in one program right now.

PLEASE redirect your rants to the one who thought of it. kthxbai.

P.S. For the record, again, for the last time. I did not get banned from Googel adsense because of keyword hijacking. Again, kthxbai.

P.P.S. Thank you for visiting my site and linking me.

Veoh.com

Yes, that’s what I’ve been busy with lately. After AznV.tv, Veoh.com would probably be my second favorite video streaming site. I like Veoh better for anime because I won’t have to use my precious premium account for something that I can watch somewhere else. Quality-wise, for anime, they’re just about the same. My main problem with aznv is just that I don’t think they ever had mac users in mind to begin with. I have to use VLC which is something I don’t really like.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a really huge screen with theater seating

Did you know that soon, analog TVs and Radios are going to be replaced by iTVs and iRadios and so on? It’s not really too far in the future for the US or other really developed countries like Japan and Korea, but for the Philippines, that would take maybe 50 more years.

iBlog4

I’m so behind on my blog posts. Anyways…… On with it

Last Saturday after getting a new SIM card, I went to UP because I needed to get the tickets for the guests for the university graduation the next day, and since I’m there, I dropped by the iBlog4 event since I also registered anyway. I also wanted to meet with Sarah and raredog (since he was the one who told me to register anyway). And so I went.

I arrived around lunch time and Sarah said there’s free food. I had to register first and surprise surprise! My name isn’t on the list. At first I thought I registered under another name although I know I always register as Mi, but we checked under my other names, and there’s nothing. No sign of Mi.

Because of this, I won’t be linking to the iBlog4 event. I know it’s not really a big deal, but meh.

ANYWAYS, I met with Sarah and sat with her to one part of the program, about Vlogging and Podcasting (Maybe I should try podcasting again) and after the speakers were done, I also left. I wasn’t able to meet with Geri because I didn’t have signal inside the batcave Malcolm theater where the event was being held.

I went to Educ which was just in front of the College of Law, except that the Sunken Garden was between them. I wanted to traverse the displacement path to Educ but it rained hard the day before and some parts of the ground might be wet, so I had to go around. I waited a bit, got my souvenir programme and tickets, and realized that I had 5 P500 bills and I was out of change. So I went to one of the kiosks and bought 2 bottles of C2 Iced Tea, one apple and one lemon, one for me and one for Sarah (I asked her even if I had already bought it, I’m weird like that) and went back to Law. I also told Geri that I was coming back and that we could meet.

I almost gave up meeting Geri because of I got too engrossed chatting with Sarah but we eventually met up anyways. Right before I left. I told him I was going home. lol. He came out and we talked a bit and hailed a taxi for me coz I was really dead on my feet and needed to sleep… The funny thing was the taxi we got was on its way to iBlog4 as well and they were kind of lost. I wonder when our local taxis gps fleet tracking and dispatch cabs in places where there are none. That would be fun.

So anyway… That ends my iBlog4 part of the day. \o/

POSSIBLE DOWNTIME AGAIN!

I ignored the bandwidth limit notices because I thought that I’d be able to manage, but somehow, it is exponentially increasing. I’m down to less than 800mb of bandwidth for the last 4 days days of the month. I don’t know if Miiinet will be able to stay online until the end of the month.

Maybe I should ask my webhost to increase my bandwidth limit… Or I could have my site hosted somewhere else. But I do recall my webhost sponsor mentioning something like just asking them if I need to increase bandwidth or disk space.

If Miiinet dies, I’ll be doing just that. I don’t think I can last every month wondering if I’ll be able to stay afloat.

Or… Anyone out there willing to sponsor Miiinet with unlimited bandwidth and space? XD jk

I like Page.PH, my sponsor. I haven’t had a downtime unlike my first webhost. And that wasn’t due to SEO getting used up. It was just a plain ol’ downtime on their side.

*crossing my fingers*

Oh, and I moved the banners and other images again as well. Hopefully, that will slow down the process of Miiinet running out of battery.

eBay!

Lately, I’ve been hanging out in eBay. I’m getting frustrated not being able to get my money from PayPal because Xoom is being utterly stupid. Not that I’ve got a lot in my PayPal, but still… it would be nice to be actually touching them or seeing them take interest in my bank account, right?

So… I signed up for eBay! And I bought three things.

Silicone Skin Case for my Zen V Plus with lanyard and armband.

You’re probably thinking I’m crazy. The item is $1.00 but shipping is $9.49, a total of $10.49. If you convert that to peso, that’s still less than how much the silicone skin case will cost here. Including the arm band. So I’m still fine with that. It’ll just take about a month to get here plus red tape, so that’s two months… maybe.

Brand New Sennheiser CX300 Ear Canal Headphone Silver Black.

Actually, I wanted the black one, but stupid me didn’t notice that I bid on the Silver one. I emailed the person and asked him if he could send me the black one instead. I don’t know if it’s real or not, but it’s cheaper than the Phillips in-ear earphones that I’ve been eyeing for some time now. a LOT cheaper, and a LOT cheaper than it’s price in malls. I can’t spend my real money, so why not spend money that I can’t obtain? right?

And my last purchase…

Nodame Cantabile: Megumi’s Piano Pattern Tote Bag + Coin Purse

I don’t remember seeing Nodame with this coin purse, but what the heck. I’ve been wanting to buy a new bag and I don’t see anything that I like that is within my budget (my budget for a new bag is P150). Nothing I see, even in Ukay-Ukays, meet that budget and design that I want. So… I thought of getting the Nodame bag. And it’s … not very cheap, but good enough. It’s about 5 times my budget, but considering I didn’t really spend anything from my salary for these… s’all good.

Well… those are my first eBay purchases. I hope I don’t get addicted and spend too much. The things I usually see have to come from overseas, and knowing how this country’s postage system works, these things will probably arrive past my birthday. *crossing fingers*

OMG, Miii.net survived!

omg-miiinet-survived

Yes! I took the chance! I took a gamble! I laid out my cards on some fancy poker tables and hoped that some little things I removed from the site would slow down the sudden upsurge of traffic. At 10:11pm last night, I got the alert

The domain miii.net (miiinet) has reached 99% of its bandwidth limit (9903.42/10000.00 Megs).

I still can’t find a way to find what my bandwidth usage was right before midnight, but with the trend I was having, I guess it was really pretty close to 10Gb. so… OMG I survived!

I brought back the banner pictures, but I’m afraid I won’t put back the Crystal-Skies forum because no one really goes on it and it has become the home of some spammers.

With my 10Gb monthly bandwidth, I can normally manage, even hosting some songs every once in a while, but the upsurge from the forum was really not something I was able to handle, nor something I expected.

So, … I’m back to normal. I was also holding off posting something new because I was afraid that I might just kill it instead. ^__^ Happi~~~ \o/
