Student-teaching day 08

<—- This has been me for the past few days. I’m always falling asleep while working on my LP. I admit that it’s my fault that I haven’t been able to finish my LP before sleeping time, because I get bored and chat on IRC for a bit… and a little bit more. Sing a little for karaoke. Speaking of Karaoke, me and Mimi are almost done with our duet of tiaraway’s Without You… we’re planning to call our duo MiMi from now on.

Back to school stuff…

I have diarrhea today. I still went to school though. I’d like to have a principle that I’ll only miss class if I’m on my deathbed, but no sickness should stop me.

Sushi?

I was bored a couple of days ago, so I thought… “hmm… I wanna make sushi.”

And then I thought, “Crap, I’m broke.”

I tried snitching money from my coin bank.

Coin Bank

As you can see, it’s half-full with coins. Those aren’t ordinary coins. Those are all P10 coins. Late last year, I decided to keep all P10 coins and instead of spending them, put them in my coin bank for ultra-emergency money. Even if I’m out or almost out of money, I never spend the P10 coins in my wallet so I could put them there. Last summer term, I walked home almost everyday…

Coin Bank Side

And soo… I had seaweed, rice, but no cucumber or carrots or crabsticks. I figured, that wouldn’t cost more than P100 so I’ll just try taking some from my bear bank.

SHUSHi? Sushi!

Early in the wee hours of the day, while Mark and I were walking towards Kowloon House for our siopao fix, we passed by this stand that I thought still sold cheap sushi. They didn’t sell their cheap sushi anymore, which is just as well. I don’t think it was safe. It probably stayed in the refrigerator or in the displays for more than a day or two. Mark said he would still buy it if they sold sushi there. Since he’d be buying it everyday, they’d have to make new ones and refresh their displays.

That makes sense.

Speaking of sushi… Last week, for my birthday get-together with my amigas, we ate at Kimono Ken for dinner. We had some Crunchy California Maki. California Maki here is rolled inverted (I think is what it is called) sushi (or rice on the outside) with mango and cucumber and imitation crab meat inside and rolled around in fish roe. Sometimes, they give a soy sauce & wasabi dip, and sometimes Japanese mayonnaise. I told my Japanese friend about this.

He was astounded. He had never heard of fruit sushi in his whole life as a Japanese. I think he’s 30-40 years old… or more. I looked it up online, and I found out that the original California rolls, the same ones some of the menus featured in this top ten list of San Diego sushi restaurants, are ones with avocado inside. That one surprised me as well. I’ve known all my life–not that it’s been a long time since I got introduced to sushi–that California rolls–or Cali Maki to most Filipinos–had mangoes inside, not avocado.

The same goes with the crunchy sushi I like so much. He felt like the Japanese sushi he knew was being degraded and insisted that those weren’t sushi.

This conversation led to fruits inside sushi, and searching through dear Google brought about Papaya Sushi and Banana Sushi, aside from Mango Sushi. Mango sushi… is okay, I guess, but Papaya and Banana Sushi just made me R.O.F.L.M.A.O.

Frustrations

Last Saturday, I went to Dine & Jam, Sarah’s family’s monthly dinner thing. Sometimes I’m a guest, but most of the time, I end up as a part of the crew, like that day. It’s not that I’m stingy. I’m not so tight-fisted either. I just don’t like spending too much. When Sarah’s mom asked if I could help out, I grabbed the chance. After all, that meant not paying, being able to eat more, and taking home food. I just LOVE the food they serve.

So, if I was able to eat all the food I wanted, why am I frustrated?

My disrupted food habits

My yogurt drinks expired.

Banana apple i think, and strawberry. Nestle Yogurt Drink. DAMNIT! IT’s 27 php each =/ around 0.54  usd =_=

The Jicama (Singkamas) started growing … dunno.. mold. i think. i should’ve taken pictures. They’ve been in the fridge for God knows how long.

I have three-week old oranges. I’m eating them right now. They’re too sweet. They don’t even taste like oranges anymore.

I have two-week old Milk in the fridge. I bought it the same day I bought the yogurt drinks. How come they taste like carbonated drinks while this milk doesn’t? Should I drink it?

Ever since I started this crazy diet, I’ve hardly touched my noodles. Oh.. the Chinese noodles are expired too. It’s stamped April 2007 even if it expired December of last year. I guess it could wait another year.

Anyway, back to my laments.

I’ve been avoiding rice like plague. I drink a lot of liquids. If I feel hungry, I try drinking water. If my hunger subsides, then I won’t eat. If I’m still hungry after drinking a ton of water, I go eat something.

I still eat noodles. Like once or twice a week. If not, I’m going to have withdrawal syndromes, a I am addicted to noodles. The noodles I have are big servings though. Two servings for each pack. Now, what I do is, I don’t force myself to finish it. I put it in the fridge when I’m full. It tastes horrible after reheating though.

I buy my own food … almost. I buy my own fruits. I almost never eat what’s served on the table anymore. It’s either too sweet, too salty, too fatty, too … unhealthy. We have vegetables at home once a week or every other week. I have no choice but to not eat food served here if I really want to pursue this diet.

I walk a lot. Well… not much really. I walk home from school. It’s about a 40-45 minute  walk. I’m already dark again. My class ends a little before 11 and I walk under that heat. Usually around 32-35 degrees Celsius. At first by the time I arrived home, I’d be feeling a little dizzy and dehydrated. Now I’m kind of used to it. I walk to the point where I could ride a tricycle home, and then I feel like it would be a waste (PhP7.00) to spend it when I’m only 20 minutes away from home so I end up walking.

I’m trying to eat healthy food. Avoiding stuff like chocolates and Coke… >_< it’s so hard. I miss eating noodles everyday.

Yogurt

I tried eating Yogurt. Creamy Yogurt by Nestle. Unsweetened. Not Berry flavored.

I wanted to puke.

But I ate it all.

It was also expired.
