Troubles don’t go on holidays
And so… yes, 4th of July came, and I had work, of course. I had a customer today who asked what kind of luck I had to make me work on the 4th of July. I told him that I had rotten luck, that’s why. He said he was also feeling lucky that tech support was open because he really needed to get some work done. I told him that troubles don’t go on holidays. Suddenly losing the service and what not, these things can happen, just like accidents.
Anyways, he had all services–TV, Phone and Internet–down. He was a little alarmed because his home alarm was going bonkers (I could hear it in the background as well). I don’t really know how home alarm systems work, but I know that they’re connected to the phone, and when something (I don’t know what) happens, they get notified or alarmed that something happened.
Anyways, it just turned out that this customer shut off the gateway where everything was hooked up because he was planning to leave for a couple of days and he didn’t want it on. And when he was about to call someone, he found that the phone was dead.
Well, fun fun. We just switched it on and everything came back up. I don’t blame the customer for incidents like this. I blame the dummy technician who didn’t inform the customer that that huge silver box with green lights is the brain of their service and it has to be on all the time. I’ve had over ten calls like this, because the technician didn’t tell them that teeny bit of information.
Ah… good thing he was in a pretty good mood, and he had good humor. Some other calls, the customers are freaking angry.
Customer: I haven’t had the service for a day! For a freaking day! And everything is down already! That’s why I switched from ——- because their service keeps on going down! And we get some rain and lightning and all the services go down!
Me: I’m sorry about that. Don’t worry, we’ll get that fixed. Do you know where the gateway is?
Customer: What’s that?
Me: It’s a big silver box that has a lot of green lights. Some might be blinking.
Customer: I don’t know anything about that.
Me: What about near the TVs? It’s usually near one of them.
~~So the customer goes around the house, checking out all 5 TVs, just to find nothing.~~
Customer: I don’t see it. I don’t remember the tech putting in something like that here.
Me: It’s there somewhere. Or else, it wouldn’t have worked in the first place. What about near the computer. Do you recall seeing a big silver box near the computer?
Customer: I do, but I’ve always had that box near the computer.
Me: Well, let’s just go and check.
Customer: Okay, I see it, but there’s no lights on it.
Me: Great! Let’s turn that on.
*sigh*
Life.
