The Case of the Disappearing Monies

July 15, 2008

3:00pm

We went to the East-West Bank(?) ATM at the lobby of PBCom Tower, Ayala Ave, Makati City to check if we got our salary already. And we did (although I’ll have to question mine coz it doesn’t seem right). Jennie and I withdrew P1000 each. Melvin and Jes just checked how much they got.

3:10 pm

The four of us ate at McDonald’s because we were starving (our shift ends at 12pm). After which, we traveled to my place.

5:00pm

We arrived at my place. Did some preliminary planning and some work and went to Anson to check out some toys to butcher for our car lantern and to Hi-Top to see if they still had that instant Lemon Cheesecake that I brought to work.

6:00pm

We went to Anson, Hi-Top and National Bookstore. We ended up buying a toy Humvee coz we suddenly realized that we were already too lazy to create one from scratch. We wondered why we had to do all these things when we were just mere tier 1 agents…

8:00pm

We waited for a bus so that Jes could go home to her Cavite.

8:30pm

We came back home, ate buffalo wings dinner, and did some work on the Car lantern.

12:30am

We went to the office and waited for the Sodexhos we earned from last month.

2:30am

We got our Sodexhos and RJ wanted to eat out first.

2:35am

Jennie tried withdrawing again from the ATM. It kept giving her an error telling her that she didn’t have sufficient balance to withdraw. She had P0.00 balance, according to the ATM. We went to the other ATM, PBCom, and checked the balance. It still said P0.00

2:40am

We went to 7-11 to check the BDO ATM there. Jennie’s account is still showing as P0.00. Melvin tried withdrawing money, he got P1000 and his balance is correct. I tried withdrawing too since we’re going to eat out. It said I had P0.00 too.

dun dun dun DUNNNN!

All my monies were gone, down to the last centavo.

3:00am

We went to Chili Pepper (I think that’s the name of the place) and ordered some food after some coaxing by Melvin and RJ despite me and Jennie being depressed about our P0.00. We tried calling BDO’s customer service but all of their representatives are currently assisting other customers for 10+ minutes. Yu refused to check my online bank for me because of risk of fraud investigation (as if it exists here).

4:45am

Unable to stand it anymore, we went back to the office to use the lab PCs. Mine was really showing P0.00 but the transaction history won’t load at all. We informed our Operations Manager and she said she’ll look into it and file a report since our Team Leader or immediate supervisor wasn’t around (it’s our rest day for crying out loud).

5:00am

We just went home.

6:00am

I arrived home, checked online and my money was back. I checked mail and fixed up some cereal and later on passed out in bed (I don’t know the time. I think it was 7ish). I was awake for a total of 30+ hours.

10:00am

I woke up, sent a message to my mother asking where she is and if I could order my bunk bed already, but passed out again before I got a reply.

4:40pm

It was too late to go out to order my bed (read: I’m too lazy to go out already) and my mother was home already. I told her about the disappearing monies and Pop said BDO has been having problems with that even before.

SHOULD I BE GLAD That I’m not alone?

It was a scary feeling. I was about to cry when I told OM that our money disappeared. Jennie has had bad experience with banks stealing money from her so she was really worried. Knowing how the country’s system works, I was afraid I wouldn’t get it back either. I didn’t think it would be a bank problem since Melvin was able to withdraw money between me and Jennie getting P0.00

*sigh*

but it’s all good now. I’m going to withdraw it all tomorrow first thing and deposit it to my trusty BPI account. Maybe one day I’ll be able to save enough and do some travel. I saw some good deals for Outer Banks rentals in North Carolina. I wonder if these kinds of deals will still exist 20 years from now…
