Warranty VS Price VS Quality

warranty-vs-price-vs-quality

I ordered laptop RAM from my boss. It’s a little pricey and it’s not exactly genuine Mac memory. It’s more expensive than what I can get from PCX but the warranty will be for 2 years, as compared to 1 year from PCX. Last time I checked the PCX price for the Kingston 1GB laptop RAM was P1180 and from my boss, it’s P1450. That’s a lot of difference, I know. P270*2 = P540. I could eat out twice or thrice depending where for that amount already. But then, if I buy from the mac store itself (I can’t remember what they call their shop), it’s three times my boss’s price, so never mind.

I also ordered a Power Supply Unit from him. Generic Twin Fan at 350W. I bought a Dynamo PSU from PCX less than a year ago as well. About 7 or 8 months ago. PCX warranty for the PSU was only 6 months. I can’t remember the price anymore, but the Dollar exchange was a lot higher that time so it was pricier as well. Since it’s out of warranty and it’s broken, I can’t have it replaced anymore. The warranty will be 1 year for my boss’ source so…

About the memory, should I be sacrificing a cheaper price for a longer warranty?

About the PSU, should I sacrifice quality over price and dire need?

I DO want to get my Computer back up and running as soon as possible but the better brands are not available from my boss’ source. I’m eyeing the Enermax which is very expensive and I do NOT want that to have just half a year of warranty.

Yes, I keep talking about warranty. I’m really considering that a lot now ever since my PSU died on me in just over 6 months.

Warranty really sucks big time here and quality is just something that can’t be guaranteed anymore. I just want to be sure that the amount of time of the warranty is at least a little more than the time it will or might fail on me.

Lifetime warranty doesn’t seem to exist or is pointless in this country. My boss originally got me Transcend RAM and it says there it’s Lifetime warranty, and to check the warranty card for its terms, but the vendor has already removed the warranty card. So it’s really stupid.

Paynalties

paynalties

At work, we set some rules for our team. And everytime we break those rules, there are corresponding penalties. Most of them are files, some are just plain things to do. For example, being late for up to 5 minutes, you’d have to dress up on a dress-down day. Being late for more than that, you’d have to wear a costume.

Last time, Jes who lives in Cavite was late for about two hours had to wear 70s attire. At another time, she had to dress up like Charlie Chaplin. I wonder when she’ll be late again? I’ll suggest a cowboy costume. I’ll make it a requirement that she wears authentic equestrian clothing and then I’ll make fun of her! (Just kidding.)

Lates, absences (excused or unexcused), speaking in another language on the floor (not just in the vernacular… coz a new teammate keeps on spouting Spanish on the chat), swearing, failing, and so on and so forth, all these have corresponding fines.

It’s a lot when you think about it (when you actually have to pay for it), but it forces you to put in mind things that should and should not be done because it’s painful to the pocket.

Do you actually think this will help? Last June, for 7 members, we reached more than P2000 in total fines. That’s just for about 2 weeks. We’ll see this month if it really makes a difference.

Globe Customer Service … or Globe itself… sucks. Big time.

globe-customer-service-or-globe-itself-sucks-big-time

This was written on July 1. I just forgot to post it.

I called Globe’s customer service again and (darn I should’ve recorded the conversations) they suck.

My concerns were:
1. My GenTxt ECard says the expiration is last May 2007 but when I try to renew it, it tells me that I’m not due for a renewal and I won’t be able to renew it.

This happened last year. I remember being out with Avo for some reason, probably a movie, and I didn’t have my GenTxt card for TimeZone anymore, so I needed a new card. For GenTxt members, TimeZone gives a 20% discount for the P200 card + VIP. On my ECard, it says that the expiry was May 2007 and I couldn’t renew it. I was seriously pissed. Good thing Sara had her ECard and she was able to get me one.

So today, while playing with my GlobeSvc+ I tried resending myself the Ecard since I have a new phone and I don’t have the Ecard anymore. It still says May 2007. I called them up and the agent, I think her name was Shy or Shine, said that I just had to resend Renew to 2277. Which I did. And got the same message. I had forgotten about this because I thought it would correct itself, but apparently it didn’t. Right after I hung up, I tried it. Didn’t work. I called back. Complained.

Then the stupid agent, Christopher Aquino, told me that I really won’t be able to renew it because I’m really not due for a renewal and on their system it shows as active. AGAIN, for the nth time, I think I had to tell him like 5 times that I can’t use their stupid GenTxt because of the expiration date on the Ecard. He told me that I’ll have to wait until it’s due for expiry before I could renew it. AGAIN I told the doggarn stupid agent the situation. Then he said I should get a message within 3-5 business days. I asked, what if I don’t by Tuesday next week? He said he’ll call and follow it up. I gave him a time when he could call. I don’t want my phone ringing at work and they’ll give me a stupid excuse that I didn’t pick up the phone IF they even call.

2. My second concern was BPI Mobile Banking. After I upgraded my SIM, I can’t access my mobile banking anymore. I can’t add favorites either. It just doesn’t work. Period. And the biatch said there it will be fixed in 3-5 business days.

Ok. It’s now WEDNESDAY. 6 business days after that. And I didn’t receive any call. Time to call them up again~

oh oh.. yesterday, a telemarketer from globe broadband called up and was telling us about globe broadband internet. I said we already have internet. He asked what provider. I said PLDT. He asked me if we were okay with it. I said yes. The person he was looking for originally was my father but he was asleep that time so I took the call. So I told the telemarketer that we’ll think about it because my father isn’t awake yet. Then he asked me if I had a pen and paper that time so that he could give me a number to call. I said yes (even if I didn’t) then he said that the promo will end August 1 and that I might decide late. I said that’s still plenty of time to think. Then he kept on saying that we have to decide soon. I said … “Look, never mind. You can’t make me decide right now if we want to sign up or not.” Then he hung up.

I’m like… What the F? Too bad I didn’t get his name. I’m going to make it a point to take down their names whenever I call customer service.

Growing Old

growing-old

My mother just got older by a year again a couple of days ago. Her hair is starting to become white as well. She gets these random pains these days, like her joints aching and so on. My mother’s not that old, but she’s not too healthy. She’s taking some medicine everyday.

I want to buy my mother stuff. Random stuff. Actually, I want to buy her a new cellphone, like I’ve previously mentioned. I added her as my dependent in my health insurance as well. I’m also thinking of getting her a bank account so that she could get life insurance as well. BPI offers that. Although, it would sure be fun if the bank also offered family life insurance so my father will be included as well. It’s not that I love my father enough, but he’s got a job that offers insurance as well.

My pop’s getting old faster as well. He’s a lot bigger and his joints ache more. He downs medicine like there’s no tomorrow. Mama and I tell him all the time not to be too dependent on medicine. Aside from him taking double dosages all the time (his reason is because he’s bigger) and it’s not good for him, it’s also expensive. When we do tell him that it’s too much, he just says, “Masakit eh! Anong magagawa ko? (Well it hurts! What can I do?)” … I still think he’s too dependent on meds.

Anyways… my parents are getting old. And both my older brothers have somewhat their own families now (although orc still lives with us and is still very dependent on my parents). I’m basically the only one they have left. Iks and Eelai do help out sometimes, but they’ve basically got their own family already.

I’m also growing old. People my age either are getting married, already married, or have kids already. It’s strange. I think I’m still too young but actually I’m already old. *sigh*

Quarterlife crisis?
