In Bruges (2008)
I just watched this movie because someone forced me to watch it. And I was sleepy but I couldn’t sleep, so I thought that if this movie would bore me, then good, I’d be able to fall asleep.
I must say that I am quite pleased with the movie. Like Yu said, “It was a rollercoaster of emotions.”
When one guy was running to get gunned down, I was screaming in my seat (I was in bed, but wth) “Run! Run! Run!” I needed to yawn but I manage to keep my eyes open because I didn’t want to miss a scene. Of course, I was watching it with subtitles because the accent is a little weird.

The plot itself. Two hitmen take a vacation in a God-knows-where place to one of them, and a wonderland for the other. They’re taking a vacation because the one who didn’t like the place accidentally killed a boy and he was getting eaten up by his conscience. The story progresses as the two men experience a change of views on life and death. It also shows reality in a sense–aside from life and death, there’s racism of skin color or citizenship, discrimination for personal looks, prostitution. The ending was also wonderfully … ended. I mean, the presentation of the ending, although it kind of leaves an unanswered question in the end which makes you want to know the answer as well.
The characters. They were played very nicely and they portrayed the characters as if they were the characters themselves. The way the weakling would be biting his fingernails whenever he’s nervous, the way his eyes or face twitches… With the other guy, I also liked the way his face moved and contorted.
The script. Minus the fact that there were times when each line was punctuated with F words (I should have counted the number of times it showed up… but I can do that in Word), the witty script and the way they were delivered would make you laugh or get annoyed. It evokes emotions.
Dislikes:
None really, except for the blood part. It looked too unreal. I would say language, too many F words, but it’s basically what it is about– an effed up world.
Judgment:
It’s a must watch (it’s R-18 for Language and violence). It’s in really wide screen and I think it would be really nice to watch it bigger. Maybe it could be available in video wall rentals though… it wasn’t really that popular. It wasn’t even shown here. But if you could get a hold of a copy of it, then please enjoy it.

I watched this synched with Yu. It’s kind of like watching a movie together and what’s good about it is you can actually talk about it without being noisy and disturbing other people. XD you could also go straight and discuss it in the middle or after watching the movie.
Anyways, time to sleep.
