Pathetic
I realized how lame my previous post was. I was desperately trying to type it with my eyes trying to close and I was fighting against it, keeping it open, alternating each eye so one could rest.
And then when I woke up, I was practically chatting with Yu the whole time until I fell asleep again, so I wasn’t able to write.
I was going to write about that one funny call. The customer was really nice and he was setting up a business about signs–fully customized signs. Signs for what, you say? I didn’t really quite understand. It must be an American thing. I just smiled, nodded, agreed and laughed with the customer. He said you could have it set on your birthstone, it glows in the dark and if ever you have one, you’ll probably be the only one in your whole block to have one.
What’s striking about this call is I realized how some people just don’t listen. You give them simple yet detailed instructions, spell out things for them, yet they do something else. I was guiding this customer into creating a new email account and I told him that the member name would be the new email address which is xxxxxxxxx, the email username he wanted. And as it turned out later on, he put in his primary email.
He admitted he was wrong, it was his mistake, that he actually heard me say that but he didn’t do it. Tough. At least he knew he was wrong. When we were trying to sign in that new email account, I told him specifically that it would be the password for that new one he created. Noo~ he was typing the one for the primary. *sigh*
Some people just don’t want to read. What if for example you’re setting up your plasma TV on a plasma mount and you didn’t read or follow the instructions properly? And someone accidentally bumps into it and it crashes down to the floor? Bye bye to a lot of money.
Some people also think they know everything, that we’re wrong or something’s wrong with our side (internet or network side). I had this other call and the customer was telling me that there was a thunderstorm and a really quick power outage so they tried unplugging the power cable, but they accidentally dropped it and then it stopped working. And then the customer proceeded to complain about how low the quality of the modem was, that just because it was dropped it doesn’t work anymore.
I asked her to check the power cable at the back of the modem, to unplug it and then plug it back in and see if there’s any difference. None. All lights are still off. And then I asked her to follow that cable to the power outlet or a power strip to see if it got accidentally unplugged. Then she went on on how she was sure it was plugged and that no one touched it and so on and so forth. I had to ask her firmly and gently to please check on it. And what do you know? It was unplugged. Then she said the internet was working already and she kept on saying sorry to have wasted my time. Of course I say that it was no problem, but things like this really do waste our time. Simple things like checking your cables. My god! And then they act so cocky after finding out that it was their stupidity and they make it show like it’s our fault.
*sigh*
It’s so stressful sometimes.
