Globe Telecom Sucks

14 May, 2008 (13:34) | Philippines | By: Mi

Been busy with work and some other stuff lately.

The past three days, I’ve been spending some of my precious rest times dealing with customer support from Globe telecom and BPI. I’m glad to say that BPI’s customer service wasn’t that bad. It was just a real pain in the behind to get someone on their hotline number, but there’s an option there wherein you can leave your name and number and they’ll get back to you as soon as they can. And they did. And it was a wonderful experience.

Globe telecom customer support on the other hand had always had terrible customer service and it hadn’t changed from 3 years ago. Three years ago I called for help because of my GPRS settings. That was resolved immediately except that I was put on hold for 12 minutes after being told that I’d be put on hold for 8 minutes (Yes, she asked if it was alright to put me on hold for 8 minutes).

Lately, I’ve been having problems with BPI Mobile Banking ever since I had my SIM card upgraded so that my phone will work properly.

The first time I called, I was told that the problem was with BPI and that I should call them. I couldn’t reach anyone so I just went to the bank itself because it’s just almost right across my place. I still had to call the hotline, and that was when I left my number instead.

At the bank, I was getting more and more aggravated, so I called Globe’s customer service again and then I was told that my phone had a problem. I mean, what the F. First it was the bank, and then it was my phone. They said because there’s no problem with the area and that I should be getting a good signal. I told them as well that there were times that I try accessing the mobile banking menu my whole journey from Makati to Quezon City, so it SHOULD be my phone, they said.

Then I told her that it was working before I had my SIM card upgraded, so how could it be my phone. I also had to TELL the stupid rep THREE FREAKIN TIMES that I upgraded from 64k to 128k. I mean, could you upgrade from 64k to 64k? I got pissed and asked her if Tagalog was so hard to understand that I had to repeat it again and again. She already had an aggravated customer and she had to aggravate me even more.

Sure, I’m just one of millions of subscribers. Sure, I’m just using prepaid. I’m not one of Globe’s precious postpaid customers. And now I am SO GLAD that I didn’t go for postpaid like I planned to 2 months ago.

Anyway, after my call with BPI, we came with a much more solid conclusion, and the problem IS with the SIM card, like I’ve been telling the 2nd person from Globe. So I’m going to Globe’s business center in a bit and complain and have them fix this. I know it’s not my phone because I’ve tried it on Mama’s phone which is a Sony Ericsson and I also tried it on Papa’s which isn’t a 3G phone.

The aggravation and sleeplessness I got from Globe Telecom probably lost me 10 lbs, faster than using instant weight reducing medicine like Orovo detox wherein you can lose as much as 7 pounds in 7 days. I mean, I do want to lose weight, but not from being eternally angry.

*sigh*

I guess I could use the exercise.

And yes, if you’re thinking that I’m saying all these because I also work in the customer service business and that I should know better, then it IS because I know better. The BPI rep did all that she can to help me without putting the blame on other things like what Globe Telecom did. In fact, she was kind of making BPI own the problem by apologizing for not having a system to inform the customers of the new BPI Mobile banking menu thing.

Hi. Yes, I’m still having problems but that’s not BPI’s problem anymore. It’s Globe’s problem and basically, I’ve given up calling them. They always tell me in the end that they’re going to call me back for my issue but they don’t.

GLOBE TELECOM REALLY SUCKS!!! (and if I have to say to scream it out, I will).

Why? Read on.

First gripe: they are COST-CUTTING by downgrading their transmitting power. It never happened to me before, but in the last 2 years I notice that I no longer get full 5 bars with clear signal right where I live in Ayala Alabang. Yes, you read it correctly, inside this posh village developed by the Ayalas, Globe (owned by the Ayalas) signal sucks. Now I need to go out and “catch” some signal. I lived in the same spot in the last 5 years and signal became worse since last year.

Second gripe: Globe won’t admit they are COST-CUTTING by downgrading their transmitting power. In this day and age where competition is enormously fierce, you would think they have tried to upgrade their system.

Third gripe: They treat postpaid and prepaid customers the same: shabby, always put on hold which seems like forever. There was one time early this year that they tried to cut the 211 lines beyond 12 midnight. Oh, that was terrible. Millions of subscribers? Go fend for yourself if your problem cannot be attended to until the next day. Paano na kung meron kayong overseas call from, say, USA? People from USA call me during their daytime. When I need to fix a problem with Globe, they are not available.

Fourth gripe: Globe won’t admit they have an inferior GSM system over SMART Telecom. Proven na ang Smart. Smart has clearer signal, whether you are using GSM or UMTS/3G frequencies.

Fifth gripe: I am a tech-savvy person. I routinely change my phones every month. Most of them the most high-tech I can buy. When I got my Nokia E90, I tried to use the 3G video face-to-face calling. It was jerky at best and always cut off in the middle of conversation. When I switched to SMART using the same phone, my problems went away: smoother video and being cut off is now infrequent.

Globe needs to do something or else I am staying with SMART for a long time.

@Rey

Thank you for that interesting input. Sometimes, I’m really considering switching to Smart already but my whole family is on Globe (Not that I use Unlimited, but I buy P1000 and give them load and they pay me back, like their own personal loading center). BPI only supports Globe for mobile banking (And I’m not able to use this right now because Globe is being oh so stupid). If I switch to Smart, it’s going to be REALLY REALLY Expensive for me and a lot of hassle since I have a lot of accounts linked to my number which I have been using for years now.

I’ve given up calling them already. They always tell me they’re going to call me back, or that they’ll resolve the issue within 3-5 working days and I’ve never received any call from them nor has the issue been resolved. I’ve given up calling them and I’m just making do with online banking and going to the ATM to load… It’s really annoying.

And here I was really considering to switch to Globe PostPaid, but then I’ll have to change numbers as well. I was also considering switching to their broadband DSL but with this kind of service, I’ll stick with PLDT. Nevermind that their customer service / technical support also sucks, but at least they get things done.

I find it upsetting that Globe Telecom after-sales/customer service does not provide help regarding the retrieval of prepaid SIM PUK codes. Even for legitimately bought SIM cards. Smart provides these over the internet. All you need is the ICCID and the phone number. I don’t know why globe cannot come up with a similar service. The reality is that things happen that lead to blocking of a SIM. These things do not always arise from bad intentions.

I hope globe provides a PUK retrieval service. Important data is locked on my SIM.

Help regarding this would be most welcome. 09174634553

When I was at a Globe Business Center, there was this woman also who wanted to have her SIM unlocked… instead of unlocking, they insisted on just having the same number on a new SIM. these people just don’t understand.

Yeah. I don’t know why. Smart provides an online PUK release service. I hope globe can come up with a similar service soon.

Guess Globe Telecom really sucks. I use only a prepaid kit for me to be able monitor my expenses. I loaded a card and the computer told me that the card has already been used. So I called the customer service and asked for an explanation. They told me that it has already been loaded to my number. But when I checked my balance, it still hasn’t entered my account. They told me that they would be investigating about it, but of course nothing happened. I’m sure there’s something wrong with their system.

Just go to a Globe Business Center and ask for a SIM Upgrade. It depends on the availability in that center though, if you can have the upgraded SIM. There’s usually in the big malls. I can’t remember if it was 140 or 150. it’s something like that.

i also had an enocounter w/ globe csr’s about my g-live problem.
it’s not working so i decided to call them. they said my phone and sim are both capable of the g-live service and they even assured me within a few days, i will be receiving g-live alerts and contents. but i waited for a month and called them for AT LEAST 20 TIMES.

Glob Unli calls really sucks. I requested for UNYT 20 for me to enjoy unlimited calls all night. They deducted 20 pesos on my account then after few seconds, I received an auto-generated text saying “Sorry… We can’t process your request, try later”. My balance is 100.52 and now, it is just 80.52. I called cx service already and they can’t do something about it but to create a report requesting to reverse it. Then I have to wait for the notification for the next 24 to 48 business hours. That really sucks.

unless you’re on postpaid… one of the comments above if you read through them is that globe does not have a way to unblock or retrieve the PUK codes for prepaid. for postpaid, you need to call their hotline.

All I can say for now is … Good Luck.

that’s so horrible to happen! and it doesn’t help that you’re currently in another country. globe has a direct number that you can call using the globe phone if you’re on prepaid and on roaming. have you tried that? just call them every hour!

Hi,

Bad experience with Globe too! It’s been two days now and I still don’t have any signal! Customer service is ok with me but their system isn’t. Just when you are about to receive job offers on your mobile phone then suddenly they would have this kind of problem with selected globe subscriber numbers… If I could only say this out loud and post it on all internet sites I WOULD!

what? so it’s really hopeless for prepaid subscribers to retrieve their PUK?? That’s so unfair. I just got my pin blocked yesterday and I haven’t gone to Globe for help yet. From your feedback, I’m starting to have second thoughts about going there. What can I do? I don’t want to change my number. And I certainly don’t want to pay a certain amount for them to restore my sim. This sucks. I hope someone from Globe can read this blog so that they can do something about it.

last sunday night APRIL 19, 2009 at 11 PM. somewhere in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.

Globe’s Hotline for Autoload Retailer’s concern is re-routed to another hotline which is 211. We’ve been trying to call 2629 hotline NUMEROUS times for the past few days but all calls are re-routed to 211 and the CSR’s who picks up our call are not able to address our concern and always advises us to call 2629 again which is so FUTILE. Globe does not deliver what they advertise. Even if you are entitled to their promos, do not expect Globe to make good with their promos and promises. Globe should be sued for unjust vexation and false advertising due to problems encountered as mentioned hereon; add to that, their non-existent hotline and ineffective and inefficient customer service.

I have been a loyal but unhappy subscriber of Globe Telecom for 11 years running, with three postpaid lines. I am only maintaining my post paid line because every one else in my family has uses Globe. The switching cost would be high.

They don’t care if I’ve been with them for a long time. They still treat me like crap. The customer service reps don’t understand the customer’s needs. The only thing I like about Globe is that they don’t give me a hard time when roaming my postpaid. But that’s about it.

I’ve already applied for my Smart line though. I’m thinking of cutting na my Globe line. The aggravation that the CSRs give me is greater than the switching cost.

In a span of 4 days, I’ve had 2 complaints already pending in Globe’s customer service.

#1:

Oct.24 around 12AM i registered for their UNYT promo. I had 36 pesos load then. I received a confirmation message from UNYT and it said that it didn’t need maintaining balance anymore so I registered for SULITXT. So I had 1 peso left.

Received confirmation message. I checked my balance and I only had 1 peso left. Which means nabawasan yung load ko. So nagtext pa ako sa mga globe okay naman. Pero the following morning, nagulat na lang ako wala nakong load. Globe naman yung mga tinetext ko.

So I called it in. They told me na hindi daw napasok sa system nila na nagregister daw ako sa SULITXT eh hello?! Para saan pa yung confirmation message?! Sabi pa nila they already wrote a report for reversal and I should call them in 48 hours?!

Hellooo.

Customer niyo pa yung tatawag? Eh kung kayo kaya yung tumawag sakanila ng status ng report nila para hindi kami waiting in vain kung may mangyayari ba o wala?!

After 48 hours nga tumawag ako and they told me to call AGAIN. Pero bago pa man ako tumawag ULIT sakanila, etong UNYT na to hindi rin gumana.

#2:

Oct. 27 around 2AM I had 22 pesos load and registered for UNYT. Received confirmation message immediately. Pero nung tumawag nako sa globe naman din na network, “Sorry, you do not have sufficient credit lalalla to make a call”.

So tinawag ko nanaman ng mga 4-5 AM yung complaint ko! And now they’re telling me their system is down daw, request for reversal na naman. I have to call again in 3 days. Ugh.

GLOBE TELECOM. YOUR SERVICE SUCKS RIGHT NOW.

if there was no balance when the line got disconnected and it was not due to non-payment, then I would suggest calling and calling and calling. and ask for a manager whenever you call. make them read to you the notes from previous calls. if you visited the business center or made a phone call when the line got disconnected, have them look for it. if it was disconnected due to non-payment though and the balance was not settled, and no action was made to properly have the line disconnected, then that’s a different story. but it would still involve making phone calls. a lot of them. ask for names as well. and send emails as well - custhelp@globetel.com.ph .

you can always try ignoring the letter. I’ve never had anything like that so I don’t know the consequences, just that it is not the best idea.
