Food Trip

3 May, 2008 (01:30) | Food | By: Mi

I went to SM North today after getting my graduation pictures from UP Diliman. I wanted to buy new rubber shoes because it’s been raining lately and the rubber shoes that I use most of the time is not usable when it’s raining. I also wanted to buy a new phone strap.

But I wasn’t able to buy rubber shoes. Nor a phone strap.

I was feeling hungry already when I reached the campus but I figured that I’d have more choices at SM and I felt like pigging out. I went to the Food Court and looked around on what to eat. I saw this new Japanese food stall (of course it’s not authentic), Keisha’s Teppan Cuisine, and the food really looked appetizing. (No, not really. The display was plastic or something.) But what caught my eye was the temaki only for P60 for three pieces. And they were kind of big.

I wanted to eat something else other than the temaki, but I asked the cashier lady if the temaki was actually that big and she said it was. … And it was.

So I had to keep myself from ordering the bento set or the other rice meal sets. The Omurice (Omelette Rice / Rice wrapped in Omelette) looked big in the display as well, but I asked the lady again if it was that big, and she said it wouldn’t be that big because the egg will shrink. OTL … Maa… Since having watched Lunch Queen, I’ve been wanting to eat Omurice even if I knew there wouldn’t be any demiglace sauce or chicken inside the rice. I only noticed after I started waiting for my order that I can have all three kinds of their temaki for the same price, but one each. Durn. Oh well. I’ll be back anyway. I’m sure of it.

I wouldn’t say I was genuinely pleased with the Omurice, but it was good enough for P60. The omelette was thin and I can’t really distinguish what was with the rice. I know it had ketchup (UFC Banana Catsup, I believe), red and green bell peppers, ham, and some weird thing that I can’t place.

On my way to the shoes area in the department store, I passed by a free Globe SIM stand … if I buy at least P200 worth of items and reload at least P25 credit to it, I get the SIM for free (which is logically not free) and I remembered that Mama asked me to get her a new SIM card. So I wandered to Watson’s checking out stuff to buy and I ended up buying more than P400 of stuff. Oh well.

After walking around and around and around and spending a couple of hundred pesos buying stuff here and there including Taba’s goodies (That he refuses to eat, that darned ungrateful dog!), I was just waiting for 9pm so that I could have discounted chicken wings from some Chinese food place that I can’t remember the name of the store. I wandered to French Baker and eyed the crepe. I eyed the blueberry crepe. I eyed it so hard.

You can eye it here as well:

French Baker Blueberry Creme

Yes, folks. I eyed it so hard until it was right in front of me.

I kind of regretted it and I kind of did not. The crepe was a little too thick, but it had a generous serving of blueberries and cream (which I could have done without *squeezes belly flab*). The crepe was really fine, except that it was really too thick. I watched the person make it and she didn’t seem very experienced. But overall, it was great. I don’t regret it because it was somehow good, but I regret it because I was so full I could barely walk (lol) and I didn’t even bother continue waiting for 9pm for the chicken wings.

I walked around to let the food start going down then I saw Surplus Shop, and miracle of miracles, I found two slacks that actually fit me for a really low price. Nice slacks for P399.95. There’s a catch though. The buttons weren’t sewed very well that one each of the slacks popped while I was fitting them. But did I care? No, not really. I’m really tired of buying expensive slacks (one of which got caught in a nail sticking out of a jeepney seat -_-) and I do feel they’re not worth it.

Walk walk walk, I wanted to lie down. I was really so full. And happy. I just wanted to go home. So… I started going to the jeepney terminal to ride the jeep, and I saw a line worth of three jeepneys. I went to the taxi stand. The taxis didn’t seem to be lacking. I stood in the taxi stand line for about 30 seconds when I realized I’ve used up almost all of my cash. I took a quick peek in my wallet and saw 2-P20 bills. I looked in Panda coin purse and saw another P20 bill and about 6-P5 coins.

Panda

Ugghhh…

I walked to the jeepney line. Waited 5 minutes. Still no jeepney. I’ll probably be on the 4th jeep. Tummy grumble.

*EMERGENCY!~ EMERGENCY!~*

I walked back to the taxi stand. I saw the guy who was behind me get inside a cab. ~_~ Darn. I could’ve been in that cab. Waited waited. Tummy grumble. It was finally my turn. And …

uwaaaa~~

No taxi. It ran out of taxis. I had to wait another 5 minutes for a taxi (I’m probably exaggerating). Zooooooomm…

It was a really quick ride. The taxi’s meter was really fast. The meter was exactly P75 when it passed my gate. The stupid taxi driver did not stop in front of my gate even after I told him to. He stopped about 10 meters from my gate. The meter was already P77.50 when he stopped. I was planning to pay him P85. But because he didn’t stop at the right place, I gave him exactly P77.50.

It was a fun day. I spent a total of P2519 today.

Temaki!!! It’s been a while since I last had one; I’d have one when I go back home. Meanwhile I must resist the temptation when looking at those pictures…

I’ve too encountered Omurice via Lunch Queen, though indirectly via my sister, who has watched the entire dorama. Ever thought of cooking one? Maybe cooking one will taste much better than those outside~

Actually, before watching Lunch Queen, I’ve already encountered Omurice in other dramas and I’ve tried eating Omurice at another Japanese restaurant, but because of watching Lunch Queen, I’ve kind of had this urge to try omurice wherever possible. XD
