Cellphone in the Fridge and the Last Train

Last night, I went out with my amigas Lori, Sara, and Sarah. We ate at Cafe Bola for dinner and then at Max Brenner for desserts. I was supposed to go to UnionBank first to make a deposit, but I left the house somewhat late, almost an exact calculation that I’ll reach the bank just in time before it closes. But when I arrived in EDSA, I realized that I had left my cellphone. I left my cellphone inside the refrigerator. I sighed, got off the jeepney and crossed the street. Hailed another jeepney and went home. I’ll make a bank deposit some other time. I can’t meet with my friends without a phone because you never know what comes up.

Going to Makati, I felt lazy walking to GMA station so I took a bus. I planned to get off two stations from GMA but when I was there, I couldn’t get off immediately so I’ll be walking, so I told the conductor that I’ll just get off somewhere else. And I did. And I realized that I was so stupid that I really should’ve taken the train instead. I would’ve saved about half my total fare on my way to the meeting place. Sarah arrived after 7 and we kind of got lost going to Cafe Bola. We had to ask where it was because Lori forgot where it was. When we arrived there, Sara just arrived as well.

At Cafe Bola, I ordered Spicy Green Curry with Carambola (Beef, Chicken, and Seafood balls). Sarah ordered Carambola on Sour Cream and Paprika, both on rice. Sara and Lori got pasta. The pasta dishes looked really nice, but the rice topping meals didn’t really look very appetizing. It could be because of the light, but nonetheless, I know I won’t be eating there anymore. It just wasn’t a “wow” experience for me that I’d go back there. On the other hand, we did the usual tasting of each other’s meals. We just have to try the others, right? :D

For dessert, we decided to eat at Max Brenner and I had a cup of hot chocolate–Venezuelan Dark Chocolate something with a hint of coffee. Sure it really tasted good, but it kind of tasted normal. Like the normal Pinoy Cocoa (pronounced as kok-wa). I guess I liked the experience with the mug although I felt like I didn’t really taste anything new. Sarah had Ecuadorian Dark Chocolate with Orchid Oil. It was … an experience. It wasn’t as thick and smooth as my hot cocoa, but the orchid oil really made a lot of difference. However, it was a difference that I didn’t really particularly enjoy. That night, I said it tasted like plant/flower. Sara had a muffin that I described it to be a chocolate volcano because there was melted chocolate inside it. That was really nice. And I also had a taste of Häagen-Dazs ice cream for the first time. Lori had a chocolate cheesecake that didn’t taste cheesecake-y if you didn’t take a mouthful at least. And if you did, it was really good. The caramelized almonds that came with the muffin and the cake was really nice too. It tasted like really nice Pili nuts.

There, we also saw Toni Gonzaga, an actress/host/model and she looked really anorexic. We kind of wondered who she was with at that time as well. We also saw some women wearing really … REAAAALLY short dresses. After some picture-taking we were just relaxing and waiting until it was time to go. We hadn’t seen each other for a while, and the feeling of being full of chocolate was so nice that we were kind of reluctant to go.

Lori said that if she was still in the office by 10pm, she starts panicking because she doesn’t want to miss the last train. We said we still had time. Sarah, Lori and I were nearing the MRT station around 10:20 and we saw that the lights were signaling the people to hurry up and there was like a siren. And so we rushed. Lori said she had an extra train pass but when we arrived there, she realized that she didn’t so I had to fall in line and get a pass. I was telling Sarah and Lori to go ahead because I didn’t want them to miss the train for me but they said it was okay and they’d wait.

Then the announcement that the last train was approaching came and the guards were pulling down the gates. I managed to grab my ticket and I went under the chain thingie instead of falling in line again for the bag inspection, and then we ran and ran because we didn’t want to miss the train and everyone else was running. It was like in Japanese dramas and movies, when they would be running to catch the last train. I’ve never had to catch the last train. I was wearing my crappy shoes not meant for long walks or running, and I was really afraid I’d trip or something. They weren’t like high class shoes like a Naot or something and I really hoped I wouldn’t slip and make a ruckus.

Fortunately, I didn’t slip. We made it. After about 10 seconds of reaching the platform, the last train was approaching. We made it. We were still catching our breath as we walked inside the train. Somehow, we made it. I kind of felt guilty since it was because I didn’t have a pass and I had to get one first. We wouldn’t have had to run. But I kind of felt happy anyways because we had a fun experience like running to catch the last train.

I really had a great time last night.
