Core of Soul - The Spirit of this Place

Finally done with the University Graduation last Sunday, but only able to write about it today. I was so tired Sunday night and I went out yesterday.
Anyway, I’m finally done. I feel a little guilty because I’m not teaching and I do not want to teach in the classroom, like what I studied and graduated as. But… meh… In any case. I’m finished!

The day before I got a new SIM card and dropped by iBlog4 and I was only running with 4 hours of sleep since Friday, and then I had work that night. I was able to leave early that morning and I was so desperate that I might not be able to sleep so … I drank some beer. I drank 2 cans of Strong Ice. And then tried to sleep. I was able to sleep around 8 already and I woke up before 11.

Surprise! I had a hangover. The headache kind of hangover. I don’t usually have hangovers with beer. The worst hangover I get is feeling puke-y, but after puking, I’d be feeling better. That one I had I didn’t really feel queasy or nauseous … just… a pounding headache.

So… heat of the sun plus headache plus too long a wait time = horrendous day!

But not really.

iBlog4

I’m so behind on my blog posts. Anyways…… On with it

Last Saturday after getting a new SIM card, I went to UP because I needed to get the tickets for the guests for the university graduation the next day, and since I’m there, I dropped by the iBlog4 event since I also registered anyway. I also wanted to meet with Sarah and raredog (since he was the one who told me to register anyway). And so I went.

I arrived around lunch time and Sarah said there’s free food. I had to register first and surprise surprise! My name isn’t on the list. At first I thought I registered under another name although I know I always register as Mi, but we checked under my other names, and there’s nothing. No sign of Mi.

Because of this, I won’t be linking to the iBlog4 event. I know it’s not really a big deal, but meh.

ANYWAYS, I met with Sarah and sat with her to one part of the program, about Vlogging and Podcasting (Maybe I should try podcasting again) and after the speakers were done, I also left. I wasn’t able to meet with Geri because I didn’t have signal inside the batcave Malcolm theater where the event was being held.

I went to Educ which was just in front of the College of Law, except that the Sunken Garden was between them. I wanted to traverse the displacement path to Educ but it rained hard the day before and some parts of the ground might be wet, so I had to go around. I waited a bit, got my souvenir programme and tickets, and realized that I had 5 P500 bills and I was out of change. So I went to one of the kiosks and bought 2 bottles of C2 Iced Tea, one apple and one lemon, one for me and one for Sarah (I asked her even if I had already bought it, I’m weird like that) and went back to Law. I also told Geri that I was coming back and that we could meet.

I almost gave up meeting Geri because of I got too engrossed chatting with Sarah but we eventually met up anyways. Right before I left. I told him I was going home. lol. He came out and we talked a bit and hailed a taxi for me coz I was really dead on my feet and needed to sleep… The funny thing was the taxi we got was on its way to iBlog4 as well and they were kind of lost. I wonder when our local taxis gps fleet tracking and dispatch cabs in places where there are none. That would be fun.

So anyway… That ends my iBlog4 part of the day. \o/

No More Downtime!

no-more-downtime

I actually got two very nice offers from my last post which I wrote in panic. mellow_bunny actually offered me lots of gigs of space and unlimited bandwidth, and I was reminded of a standing offer from Baka-Wolf for free hosting. But somehow, I kind of like the idea of having my own little possession and managing things for myself. Soooo….

My host, Page.PH was kind enough to increase my bandwidth limit to 15Gb! So I don’t have to worry about it anymore! For now, anyway. So I’ll stick with Page.PH

It’s time to play with SEO seriously now.

THANK YOU PAGE.PH

Nokia N80’s “General: System Error” for SMS/Text Messages

nokia-n80s-general-system-error-for-smstext-messages

I have a new phone. It’s a Nokia N80 Internet Edition. Eelai had to return the Chinese Motobuddy (A rip-off of a Motorola business PDA phone) because of business and personal reasons and she lent me her Nokia 5300 at first. But then her brother’s leaving for the US and left her his N80. Eelai didn’t like the N80 so we switched.

At first, I was so happy (and sleepy) because I had a new phone, again. The N80 was very new. It probably wasn’t used much. I was playing with its Internet features the whole night while trying to sleep. And then a message came in. I opened my inbox, and clicked open the message. “General: System Error”, and then it will keep showing that and when you press the end call button, the phone will restart. If you don’t, you’ll have to remove the battery to make it stop.

It did that over and over again. I kind of realized now why it was unwanted. Because it wasn’t working properly. It was my College graduation the next day and I was having a hard time with it because I couldn’t exchange text messages with people properly.

That night, I did some research and came up with five possible reasons why that error message comes up.

  1. Firmware sucks and it needs to be updated. The version 4.0707.0.7 is said to be really buggy. If you have a European phone, the version you could upgrade to is 5.0719.0.2. If you don’t have a European phone, you’ll have to change the product code of your phone by downloading some programs and doing a lot of stuff.
  2. The Network Settings is not set to GSM and but Dual Mode.
  3. Either phone memory or memory card is corrupt and you need to either reset it to factory settings or format the memory card.
  4. The phone is broken and you’ll have to bring it to a Nokia business center.
  5. The SIM is not 3G compatible.

When I got the phone, the version of the firmware was 4.0632.0.38. So I tried upgrading the firmware, and I got 4.0707.0.7. I still got the same message. I tried doing the more complicated process of changing the product code of the phone but I just couldn’t make it work so I gave up.

I changed the Network setting to GSM from Dual Mode and I was still getting the same error message.

I formatted the memory and reset the phone to factory settings and still getting that error message.

I borrowed Mama’s SIM because I know it’s 3G compatible and tried it on the phone. Voila, it works.

So… I just slept. Or tried to. The next day I went to SM to go check with Globe first before going to Nokia to have it fixed. I had a hell of a time talking with the stupid guard at the Globe business center because he said there’s no SIM card available for my phone number so I can’t have it upgraded. When he said that, I got the list from him and looked for my number (the first 5) myself and I saw it. I wanted to hit the guard in the face, because while he was looking for it and while I was looking for it, 5 people have gone ahead. If he had used his EYES instead of his mouth, then he could’ve found it faster and I didn’t have to unnecessarily wait for 5 people to go ahead of me.

And so while watching Mr. Bean, I went online using the free wi-fi from Nokia and just played with the semi-useless phone. When I finally got called, I said I wanted to have a SIM upgrade. And then the nice lady processed it and when I finally got my new SIM card which she said will be activated in 2 to 3 hours, I explained to her that I wanted an upgrade because my 3G phone seemed to be having problems with my SIM card so I wanted a 3G SIM Card. Then she said that I didn’t really need to upgrade the SIM, I just needed 3G to be activated for my phone number.

Well, I didn’t really believe her because I read that the SIM needed to be replaced.

So anyways, I left the mall and went on my way to iblog4 at UP Diliman where I needed to go anyway. Around 40 minutes later, Sarah sent me a message and I accidentally opened it, and Voila~ It opened. Then I remembered that nice lady’s words that I didn’t really need a new SIM, just that 3G needed to be activated. …. Oh well. And then I lost my signal. So I switched SIM Cards and everything was alright after that.

So… It was really just the 3G thing, perhaps. Or maybe the SIM needed an upgrade. In anycase, I’ve wanted my SIM card to be upgraded anyway. Just never had the time or money before when I really really wanted it.

POSSIBLE DOWNTIME AGAIN!

I ignored the bandwidth limit notices because I thought that I’d be able to manage, but somehow, it is exponentially increasing. I’m down to less than 800mb of bandwidth for the last 4 days days of the month. I don’t know if Miiinet will be able to stay online until the end of the month.

Maybe I should ask my webhost to increase my bandwidth limit… Or I could have my site hosted somewhere else. But I do recall my webhost sponsor mentioning something like just asking them if I need to increase bandwidth or disk space.

If Miiinet dies, I’ll be doing just that. I don’t think I can last every month wondering if I’ll be able to stay afloat.

Or… Anyone out there willing to sponsor Miiinet with unlimited bandwidth and space? XD jk

I like Page.PH, my sponsor. I haven’t had a downtime unlike my first webhost. And that wasn’t due to SEO getting used up. It was just a plain ol’ downtime on their side.

*crossing my fingers*

Oh, and I moved the banners and other images again as well. Hopefully, that will slow down the process of Miiinet running out of battery.

I’m Graduating!

im-graduating

I graduated yesterday, actually. In UP Diliman (I’m not sure with other campuses. I’m ignorant, sorry), we graduate twice. The college graduation where we actually go up the stage and get our certificates (not the diploma) and shake hands with the Dean, and the university graduation where we watch only the students with the highest grades or awards go up the stage and get their awards. That’s probably the biggest difference. Both events have speakers, speeches and awarding of the best in the batch, swearing/pledging and so on.

Parangal means Award or an Awarding Ceremony

The College of Education graduating batch of 2008 is a special batch. We’re graduating on the 100th year of the university and the 90th year of the college.

I kind of hate Scribefire now

i-kind-of-hate-scribefire-now

The new update of scribefire wherein you can have tabs is hateful. I always click on the x for the tab and it closes what I’ve written so far without saving it. Before it gets saved as a note automatically, and now it doesn’t. I hate it along with Wordpress 2.5.

These updates are really stupid.

[Edit]
But because WP2.5 is a much worse pain in the behind, I’ll put up with scribefire and just tweak the post with wp2.5.

=_=

With these new updates, somehow, getting a blog post to go online takes longer now.

Make Your Own Logo

make-your-own-logo

I wasn’t particularly wanting to make a new logo being busy with work and all that, but I stumbled upon this kind of DIY (Do It Yourself) logo design wherein you can create your own logo, customize it to your own liking and match it with your industry as well, and it also looks very professional. You also have the option to have your logo printed on business cards, also professional looking. And so I played around with the demo and took a screenshot of the end products, the logo itself and one of the business card designs.

Miii! ~Say it out Loud~ Logo created in <45 minutes.

Here’s what I was able to create in just a short amount of time

Now, it’s very important when you conceptualize a logo, you have to take a lot of things in consideration. You have to consider what the company is all about, what it wants to do or say, what you want your logo to instantly show. Your logo is all about your company, and it represents the company itself.

Miii.net isn’t really a company, but I do want my new logo to somehow represent my site, which is basically me. So what my logo would look like will basically be me. And the business card where you’ll be putting your logo should also reflect you, the company. It’s all under one package. The moment you give your business card to someone, they should have a somewhat clear idea on what you’re all about. There are actually people who pay hundreds of dollars just to have their logo made.

Stupid People

stupid-people

I was reading blog posts from Google Reader when I came across Dawud’s latest post “Are Your Readers Morons?” and I remembered what happened at work. Although it was first about how your blog readers could be morons, it’s pretty open to every kind of relationship, be it your clients, readers, customers, or what not. And like he said, “it all begins with building relationships.”

We had a discussion at work today last night. One of my teammates was asked why he was on a call for over an hour. He replied that his customer was stupid and couldn’t follow his instructions. My team leader kind of lectured him and told him to put himself in the customers shoes. Is he properly guiding the customer? If the customer is hard of following, shouldn’t he do something about it? And these “stupid” customers call because they don’t know, that’s why they need help. And these people are the reason why we tech support people exist. It’s because of these “stupid” people why we’re here and we have this job, and we’re earning from these people’s “stupidity.”

Now, we shouldn’t really call them stupid.
