Talks of Town 01: Churva and PayPal PH

There are some things lately that it seems like the whole pinoy blogworld is talking about. But I’m only going to talk about two of those — this Chorva coming from the Greek word Cheorvamus and PayPal allowing us Filipinos to withdraw to local banks.

Cheorvamus

We Filipinos are justifying that the term Churva and its variants came from the Greek terminology “Cheorvamus” which means “for lack of the right word to say”, or “in place of anything you want to express but cannot verbalize,” and that is exactly how Filipinos use this term.

However, has anyone even tried proving this by looking this specific term in a Greek Dictionary? I’ve received at least 10 text messages about this in the past months or so and I’ve ignored it. The first few messages I got had another line at the end of the message saying that it’s just “Churva” (Churva lang yun), meaning it’s just bull so I’m sure some gay person just cooked this up. And I still do. However, the last few messages I got didn’t even have that last line anymore and I’m seeing more blog posts coming up with this term as if it were truth.

And I don’t like where it’s going anymore. There should be a campaign or movement to make people stop spreading this bull and not make lies the truth. Sure, that’s how the word is being used, but really, this is bull. Let’s start educating people. I’m not saying that we (minus me) should stop using the word churva but we really SHOULD stop treating this as if its “etymology” is valid, as if it’s some noble truth. (Sorry, Sarah :< It’s not just you, but the whole world.)

People should also stop believing whatever’s being sent through SMS, what with all these Unlimited Text features (which I don’t use anymore), people wouldn’t think twice before sending out these kinds of messages.

By the way, I’m open to anyone who could show me proof, like a Greek->English Dictionary entry or an unphotochopped screenshot or a scan.

Withdrawing money to Philippine Banks from PayPal

Here’s some tough shiznits. People have also been talking about how we can now add our own local banks to PayPal and how we can use it to withdraw money. However, some people leave out the fact that we still won’t be able to withdraw the said money if the account isn’t verified. And how do you verify? By still having the need to add a Credit Card, which, unfortunately, isn’t easy to get for most Filipinos.

In my case, I can’t get one because I lack one valid ID. (I’ve only had one valid ID ever, and it expired when I finished Uni. I just got my company ID yesterday… I still need one more to get a CC =_=; Darn them all.)

*sigh*

And And and… WHY DON’T THEY ACCEPT THE NBI CARD AS A VALID ID??? I mean, it’s Government-issued, and it’s got my picture on it. What’s the big deal why they won’t accept it as a valid ID? GRRRRRR!!!!!

And I just want a CC so I could have a verified PayPal account and when I get regularized, I could buy a really good cellphone for installment.

And so, sometimes, I wish people would talk more about other stuff like how this colon cleanse thing works because I have no idea what to write for it.

Watches and Planes and Wallets

A couple of weeks ago, the advertisement for a certain credit card company had a promo something like if you sign up, you get the chance to get a Mango watch OR a round trip ticket to somewhere, which brought to my mind that … HOLY F***ING ****! luxury watches are as expensive as plane rides! While I find it ridiculous, i guess there really are some stuff that HAVE to be bloody expensive so that no one will buy it.

I thought about this again because this same credit card company has a new promo and it’s like the same thing except you get either a wallet and something i forgot. But STILL!!! In essence, these things are clumped together. If given alternatives like this, usually the alternatives would be in the same price range, right? So… these are REALLY expensive stuff.

I don’t get the point. Why do you have to have a super expensive watch or wallet or something. If I had something like that and I lost it, I’d probably slit my wrists and …. stab myself to death. I don’t know.
