Mi’s Blogging History and Blogger Import Patch for Wordpress

And so I was trying to import my old posts from Blogger because I couldn’t justify that I’ve been blogging for a long time and that this site has been active for over a year. What’s the story behind it?

I started blogging in 2003. Even before that, Nagi forced me to join a ‘blag’ group which I don’t know whatever happened to it. I really got into blogging in 2003 because Sheila forced me into it. She even designed my layout. I didn’t become a hardcore blogger until a year later. I became one because I ranted a lot and didn’t really have anyone to talk to.

I acquired miii.net in 07 January 2006 (Noe’s birthday ^_______^ *giggle*) and I continued to use Blogger because I was still a blog n00b even if I had been blogging for almost three years already at that time. But last year, when I got a boyfriend, I kind of felt I wanted to start anew, a change, and so I got into Wordpress. I hadn’t migrated to the new blogger then so it was easy to import my old posts, but I deleted them because, like I said, I wanted to start over, a clean slate.

Months passed by and I continued to do my usual ordinary blogging, but because of Sarah I got hooked on monetizing my blog like writing about RC helicopters, and eventually, joining blogger communities. And well… I’d like to show off my blog age! but I don’t really want people delving into my past.

BUT WHO CARES!? It’s all in the past. No one would want to read the 688 posts I wrote more than 2 years ago, right? (I really hope so)

Well, here’s the hard part. Wordpress’ Blogger to Wordpress 2.2 Import script fails. And I found the way to fix this about 8 or 9 Google results later, I found a reply on a post about Wordpress needing a patch to fix this.

It said to change something on line 87 from www2.blogger.com to www.blogger.com

blogger.diff

What to do?

  1. Get your blogger.php inside import folder which is inside your wp-admin folder (inside your wordpress folder: /wordpressfolder/wp-admin/import/blogger.php) and open it using a text editor like notepad.
  2. Look for the lines that correspond to the image (or follow the links and copy it) and remove the 2 from www. Reupload, overwrite, and you’re ready to import your blogger posts to your Wordpress.

So, if this failing Blogger-to-Wordpress import is what’s keeping you from migrating to wordpress, here’s the fix for it!
