Mr.Children - Surrender
Does the title make sense?
It’s a name of a Japanese band, one of my favorites (X-JAPAN is still my #1). I can’t decide on a #2 … EVERY LITTLE THING or Mr.Children…I don’t know.
I discovered Mr.Children while looking for a Korean Drama’s OST (Autumn’ s Tale/Autumn in My Heart .. depending on who translated it). Don’t ask me how. This happened over four years ago.
The first song I heard from them was “Surrender”. The first time I heard it, it reached my heart. I couldn’t even understand most of what the guy was singing. He was singing weirdly, not like the usual Japanese songs where each mora was enunciated. Until now I can’t sing it like the vocalist (Sakurai is his name, by the way). I can’t play it either (I’ve TRIED…)
For over a month, it was practically the only song I listened to, and later on it never left my playlist. Even now that I have a ton of songs, whenever my player randomly plays this, I tend to put it on repeat for a couple of hours or days.
It begins with a cool guitar-strumming which made my fingers itch to play it, an instrument I later found out to be a Cello, and a somewhat off-key whistle. The voice of the vocalist made my knees weak. It wasn’t smooth or husky or very deep, but a little scratchy that sounds like it’ll go out of tune but it doesn’t. When he reaches those high notes, or sing “Ah~Ha~ah Haah~”, I can’t describe it exactly but it is just utterly sublime.
It had me… It had me with the guitar.
I NEED SOMEONE TO TRANSCRIBE THE CHORDS FOR ME!!! (/T_T)/ Someone help meeeee
Here are the lyrics:

Translation:
Burning my self on coffee is an indication
of how upset I am.
It’s cause you go and spring ‘goodbye’ on me suddenly.
If I could just laugh it off,
how great a guy would you think I was.
but that’s not me.
It’s last minute but
I give it one more try,
but, I Surrender
the thick thunder clouds are gathering in my heart.
I believed love was just an illusion anyway,
back when I lived my life thinking I knew everything
I thought you foolish but,
I’m beaten ragged, here
just some sap,
no more, I Surrender
that the fusion I so despise could make me cry,
makes me despise myself, despise.
light up the darkness, the way you used to
without you I feel insecure
I used to think I could lose it all and not give a shit
I had myself convinced of it…
a merciless rain falls in my heart
the days we were together, wash by and disappear
like trash in the street. The End.
Translated By: Brian Stewart & Takako Sakuma
Translator’s Notes: Devastating.

Another one of their emotional songs:
I’ll talk about this some other time, but this NEVER fails to bring tears in my eyes or make my heart move.

Hmm… I thought this looked quite promising… http://www.geocities.com/ijahamran/index_files/Page443.htm (the chords, I mean.)
Oooh, those two are my absolute favourites from Misuchiru! >u<

Oh my God. That’s my fave My Children song evarrrrrrr. When I need to listen to senti music (especially when I’m writing emo scenes for my fics) that’s the track I play. Heeheehee~.
Sublime. Yes. That’s the perfect term.
I’ll take a whack at the chords this week and see what happens. Haha!
