Student-teaching Day 27
And so today came. I took over Ma’am de Villa’s class and did extended definitions in preparation for their theme writing in both classes.
Ma’am Anasta lent me her exercises which were already on Manila paper for me to do in class. We had to somewhat RUSH it because it was announced that there would be no classes tomorrow because of an SK thing, thus we only had one day left–that day–to finish everything. Monday would be theme writing, Tuesday reading exam, Thursday-Friday Period exams.
The students, both in Gold and Calcium, decided to be a tad noisier than usually today even after I told them before I started class not to be too noisy
because my throat hurt (like hell).
Ma’am de Villa thankfully finished discussing Faulty Definitions with Calcium so all we had to do were the exercises and the pre-writing using extended definitions.
Why do students make the simplest of things more difficult? I told them that the VO I’m making them do would allow them to organize their thoughts so that when they had to write their compositions that would be all they need to do–Write. They refused to take the VO seriously and one group went 30 minutes into their lunch break–and mine–writing their paragraphs. They kept complaining and complaining. I told them that if they’d stop complaining and focus on their work, they’d have a better chance of finishing it.
In Gold, I wasn’t able to finish discussing Faulty definitions last Tuesday so I had to continue it today. But I was getting confused myself with the lecture because of their questions, so I went ahead and brought out the exercises and told them we’ll learn it through examples.
No doubt they were smart, but they also tend to complicate some things. They insist that there are faults even in accurate definitions. Most definitions in the exercises ended up having two answers. They DID justify it? How could I say no to sound arguments?
I didn’t have enough time to have the pre-writing activity for extended definitions to be done in class so I just gave them an assignment and hoped they’d get it and read the other examples.
Just one more day! Why did classes tomorrow have to be canceled?
