Student-teaching day 26

The kids were behaved today. We started on time as well, and they didn’t ask a lot of stupid questions. We started on faulty definitions. I fully discussed Generalizations, Circular Definitions, and Defining by Examples, because they couldn’t grasp Overextended and Over-restricted definitions yet.

I tried explaining through Sets (Math) since I thought that that would be the best way to explain it. I said that in order to make a proper definition, each SC should be accounted for such that if the term is X and each specific characteristic is to be represented by A, B, …, set X should have AnBnC… but as soon as I said Sets they started freaking out and telling me that they hated Math with a passion. They didn’t even want to listen to me because I was using Math.

I actually wanted to be a Math teacher–Wanted. I used to teach math to my classmates who were a little slow.

Going back,  I went home early because I felt super horrible and like I was going to collapse any minute if I didn’t leave any sooner. Ma’am is going to be away on Thursday and Friday… so I would be taking over… crap.

Student-teaching day 25

I met some of the kinds in the morning and they asked me what the coverage of the exams was. They thought the exam for last week was going to be moved to today. I told them that I told them the take home activity would be in place of the exam and group work.

Always complaining. I feel awful today. I wasn’t able to do anything over the weekend because the medications I took made me sleep. I had to come in early today as well..

Ma’am Teret helped me out for the activities because the ones I thought of sucked. I told her that if I were the student, I wouldn’t want to do my activities either.

One of the groups only had 2 members present so I let them join another group with 3 members. So many people getting sick these days.

Thriller~ Thriller Night~

The Philippines on YouTube!

It was just featured lately on a TV News program days after I’ve seen the video. It is about Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) and their weird practices. CPDRC I’ve heard is a drug rehab and detention center. If you search on youtube CPDRC videos or Thriller inmates video, you’ll see a bunch of them in orange. In their Sister Act video, there were some girls who could really dance, so you’d wonder what the heck were they doing there.

At least they are having fun exercises, though… Although it looks fun to the spectators, they’re probably embarrassed with what they were doing, but then again, maybe not.

Philippine Postage

Philippine Postage absolutely sucks to the bone.

Matt sent me something a couple of months ago and it’s still not here. I’m tempted to sign up for those personal mail boxes at the post office and just pick up the stuff there all the time. Philippine postage is so unreliable. Sometimes, I don’t get letters at all.

Last time, someone sent me something, and it went through Philippine postage and it took them 9 months to get the notice to me to pick up the package. Grrrr

And now, someone is sending me something again… I wonder how long will it get to me this time?

I Am Volume-Deaf

It’s confirmed. I’m volume-deaf.

I can’t distinguish very well if a sound is very loud or too soft or something. Well, maybe too soft I can distinguish when I couldn’t hear it anymore… But …

Ok. Today, I had my students write down my strengths and weaknesses that they’ve observed so far, and my areas for improvement.

A lot of them said my voice was too soft.

Soft? What the heck. I feel like I’m shouting in their class all the time. I AM shouting in their class all the time. After class, my throat feels like sawdust.

Anywayz , whenever I record a song and mix it, my volumes always suck. Sometimes my vocals are too loud. Sometimes, it’s too soft. I always have to have someone check it out and I go through a couple of mixes …. Like now.

I’m trying to sang Kamara’s I’m Proud. hiros said my voice was too soft… I thought it was too loud already >__<

Aaahh… Too loud earphones destroy your eardrums :D

Oh, in case you’re wondering what else the kids said, a lot of them said I’m nice. A couple of them said I’m TOO nice (under negatives). Almost all of them said I’m cute. Dx… and actually, not a lot of them put anything under negatives… *sigh*

Student-teaching Day 24

They didn’t read. Somehow I expected it… *sigh*

Not everyone submitted their ballad projects either. Some said they would submit theirs later. Some asked if they could submit on Monday. Of course I said no at first. I said it should be submitted in class, but then… poor kids. I told them I would accept papers until 3pm without deduction. They said they had a class at that time. I told them that just because I gave a 3pm deadline, it didn’t mean that they should submit it at that time. It wasn’t a submission time. It was a deadline.

Some of them submitted during lunch time. Thankfully no one passed theirs after 3pm even if I was still in school until 4.

I wrapped up Canterbury Tales and introduced problems in definitions.

Before I gave the test in Canterbury Tales and after I collected the ballads, I asked them to write on a quarter sheet of paper what they thought my strengths and weaknesses were so far (per Ma’am’s instructions).

I told them to be honest so I know what to improve. I expected pretty bad comments, but it wasn’t really that bad. Most of them said the same thing. I’m nice. I’m TOO nice. I’m cute (What the heck?). Some Most didn’t write anything negative for me which kind of made me sad and happy at the same time. Sad because I don’t think they were even paying attention to notice that I’m not that good at explaining stuff to them. Happy because I know I’m not good at handling negative criticism.

Some of those who DID write something negative, they just said that I lacked strictness, and needed to discipline them more, and that my voice wasn’t loud enough.

My voice not loud enough? Seriously? Most of the time I feel like I have to level my voice so it doesn’t reach the other classes.

Blah to them.

Student-teaching day 23

I expected it but somehow it was still disappointing. Some still thought they were just going to choose 1 activity even after I reiterated a million times that they had to do both and that I expected 2 sheets.

Ma’am said I should be strict with deadlines and not accept late papers. But some pleaded and pleaded and one of them suggested a 5-point deduction just as long as I still accept his paper tomorrow. It WAS better than a 0, so I agreed.

AND they still hadn’t read CanTales so we ended up reading in class anyway.

They were perceptive. Some were snickering at the knight and other characters whenever I pointed out something, or reminded them of their description of the character. We didn’t have enough time to do the descriptions activity because at one point, they were arguing amongst themselves if the Wife of bath was a flirt or not.

We also discussed the pilgrimages per se, and the General Prologue itself. I told them I’ll give a test the next day because they should’ve read it, and the test would be so they would read it again at home.
