Student-teaching day 09
I made a holder for Pens out of cardboard to put on my work area. It was the only fun time I had today. I had a ton of pens in my pen bag that it wouldn’t close anymore. I have 3 colors of permanent markers and 2 of whiteboard markers. I like having options. I made one because I had half a folder in my file case and was bored because my ST didn’t give me her comments for my LP soon enough so I could start revising…
My lesson plan got rejected again. It’s so depressing. It’s already my 3rd revision and I still couldn’t do it right. I feel like everything I learned were useless. I have to start from scratch. I think my ST is starting to lose patience with me as well. I need to start rewriting my lesson plan in a bit. But I’m going to share the events of today first.
Today in class, there was this student who was being stubborn and didn’t want to cooperate. I don’t think he was stupid. He was just being sullen and stubborn. He refused to answer my ST’s questions. From coaxing to threatening to remove him from the basketball team, my ST did her best. But to be honest, she lost in that battle. She said she wouldn’t let him off until he answered properly even if it took the whole class period. She said she would make him stay in class with her even when his classmates leave for their next class. But her patience snapped and she took him outside for a talk. When she came back, the kid didn’t get back in and they resumed lessons.
I read somewhere that when you’re a teacher, you must keep to your word. Fine, she was going to report him to his coach, but saying that she would wait until the class ends and that she would keep her word, and did not… It’s just that she shouldn’t have said it in the first place.
Also, keeping the class in that situation is unfair to the rest of the students. She spent almost 30 minutes just getting him to answer and failing. She couldn’t have spent the time better.
She also gave the students wrong information. She said that Great Britain is the collective states and UK included Ireland. I wonder how she’s going to fix that.
I didn’t go with her to her Grade 10 class. I finished recording the quiz results in my pink class record book. I finished checking their GATES (Reading Level) results. The results were at extremes. They’re a heterogeneous class….
And because students and teachers are all different, my ST told me that I am not going to do anything else on Monday but to observe other teachers, how they deliver their questions… I was supposed to start teaching on Monday…
