It’s my cousin Mark’s birthday today. We were chatting through GTalk even if he’s just–literally–next door. Ever since they–he and Charles–got a connectible computer of their own, they’ve been staying online as well. Less bandwidth for me. Yes, I want to complain, but that wouldn’t really be worth anything.

Anyway, I said I was hungry, and then I greeted him Happy Birthday. Then he said he wanted to eat siopao–meat buns. I asked him if it was his treat. He said yes, as long as the Iced Tea is on me.

So we went to Kowloon House and bought 2 jumbo siopao and 2 bolabola siopao and sharksfin siomai. Then we walked to 7-11 and bought Iced Tea. Yes, Iced Tea has to be capitalized.

We consumed the stuff in the office–our version of the living room, I guess–and we talked. From the time he met me at my door, to Kowloon House, to 7-11, to the office… until we gave up eating because we were full, we were talking. Reminiscing our EEE days, even high school days even if we went to different schools, his job, what he wants and doesn’t want to do, … life. I felt that I learned a little more about him, and I realized that I don’t really know him anymore, considering we were a little close to each other while growing up. I was even the one he consulted when he was picking his course choice for UP. We talked about computer stuff as well.

I realized….I envy him a lot. He’s got a lot going for him even if he doesn’t want to continue with college anymore. He was working as a tech support person for a call center company that does tech support. He just left because he wasn’t really happy there anymore or something. He can get a good job. He knows his stuff. He can stand up on his own. Heck, he’s been putting sending himself to school… all by himself.

What about me? Heh… I’m still my parents’ responsibility. They’re still paying for my schooling, providing allowances as well. They even pay for other of my miscellaneous stuff. If I don’t finish this degree I’m doing now, I won’t be ending up anywhere, except maybe as a person who will have Call Center Repping as a career. I don’t really want that. I’m not saying that it’s wrong or anything. It’s … just against my principles I guess. But then, who cares about principles nowadays?

There’s so much I want to have, so much I need to do, so many places I want to go to….and so on… And I don’t even know if I’ll ever achieve those.

I don’t know what I want with my life. I don’t know where I’m going. Having ideas is not enough. Motivation and determination is more important–none of which I seem to have. I joke around about wanting to be a bum for life. It pains me to say that. Heh…

Ahh… t’is getting too long now. XD too serious too.

Ok. One of the things we talked about was Filipino-style field trips. Even if you’re not on a field trip, you’re bound to see a bunch of Filipinos doing it. What is it?

Before the bus even starts, the kids start opening some of the snacks and start munching about. The bus starts moving, the kids open a new batch of snacks to munch on. And then, there’s a stop-over… some kids buy more snacks, some kids open a new round of snacks. Lunch break…. shared sometimes with a group of friends, or just a couple of snacks… to tide them over (wtf?). The same thing happens on the way home. Before the bus starts, on its way, and probably when they get back to the place where they get picked up by parents or maids or someone…. they’ll be munching about on snacks. … lol.

Having a bunch of snacks when you’re out somewhere has even been termed field trip… Like when you go to the theatres and you’ve got a whole grocery bag of snacks…. or you’re having a test and you were allowed to eat, you’ve got a bunch of snacks…..

End note? Filipinos love to eat. period.
