The breeze touched my face.
I asked her nicely where you were.
She answered, “At a far away place.”
She embraced me as I thanked her.
The sun warmly kissed my cold cheeks.
He said, “Don’t worry, my little dear.”
“But,” I said. “He’s been gone for weeks!”
“He’ll come back for you. Never fear.”
A bird gently sat on my shoulder
And sang a sweet but sad love song.
He gave me a look so tender
Then said, “You won’t be waiting long.”
“But it feels like forever!” I cried.
With a final chirp, he flew away.
There were tears that I tried to hide
But they wanted to have their own way,
So the sky started crying with me…
So no one will see my lonely tears.
I asked the sky, “Where could he be?”
But thunder was all I could hear.
The only thing I do was wait.
For days and weeks, he never came.
Time passed but I never felt hate.
All I felt was deep, shattering shame.
But still, I waited patiently.
He gave me my life, he’ll be back…
“Be patient!” I thought guiltily.”
Everyone sometimes deserves some slack.”
The seasons came and went as they pleased.
Patiently, I longed for your return.
I tried thinking of you as a beast,
But there’s still your love for me to earn.
The sun watches with growing sadness.
The wind comforts me with her embrace.
The bird sings his songs of loneliness.
The sky cheers me up with other ways.
One day, at last, I saw you coming.
You sat beside me… You looked so ill…
Then you slept… Again you were leaving.
Because I’m just a tree on the hill.
